Good ideas, weak execution. Daniel's art outshines his writing.

Just to be clear , i read all the companion pieces to this book as well , making it 16 individual books and a grand total of 400 odd pages .

This followed the events of Batman's death , and we witness how everyone is dealing with the aftermath. As usual the most affected by the death is Gotham , which has become a hell hole worse than what it was when batman actually started .

The whole psyche of Jason Todd and his descent into what he became along with how Jim Gordon comes to accept the harsh truth of Batman's absence is what truly got me.

That said the story felt hollow with how some of the closer allies like Damian , Barbara, Alfred were dealing with the loss .
Nightwing's reaction weren't much better either nor was Selina's .

Overall i was also disappointed with the whole treatment of Jason , but the art style is slick and the action good . Overall a decent book, but not worth re-reads

this was fun af, tbh i’ll eat up anything with jason todd in it! idc! but i think this should've been longer, especially bc it’s such a big thing to take up something like the title of batman! and also…i don’t think these fucking artists can go 2 seconds without drawing a woman with her ass showing 😭😭😭😭😭 like these girls got the fattest asses EVER and it’s just insane how these artists keep just drawing their asses so fat in literally every panel they put these superhero women in 😭😭😭

Underwhelming, especially for something as big as the passing of the mantle.

More like a 3.5. I liked Nightwing and Tim Drake in this and I loved the Nightwing-as-Batman storyline that Grant Morrison did so it was nice to go back before that. However I thought some of the other characterization was off (especially Damian Wayne in parts) and while I liked the art style the aggressive cheesecake got to be a bit much. I trust that Vicki Vale and Black Canary have asses that just won't quit, I don't need to see them front and center every single time they're on-panel. My favorite egregious ass-shot had to be when Nightwing was giving the Gotham heroes an inspiring speech and Black Canary and another heroine (maybe Huntress, I can't remember) decided that they would listen but only if they could be standing with their asses towards him while they craned their upper torsos around enough to show off at least one of their perky tits. This is a comic book staple pose and I challenge every artist who does it to stand like that for ten minutes every morning as penance.

Not sure what I was expecting, but I ended up really liking how intense this was! The writers seem to go back and forth on how "crazy" to make Jason Todd which is a shame - but for going all out in this short run, I really did like the drama of it all. And really anything where the Robins interact is fun.

How many times does Jason have to almost die for him to finally get some help??? Like Dick goes on and on in his monologues about how Jason could have reached out to literally anyone in the Batfam to get some peace - expect in Blood Brothers where Jason kind of DID but was just called insane and again, got the crap beaten out of him. Not that these events always take those other stories into account. Still, accepting the decision that they made Jason really off the rails murderous, I liked the dramatics.

Plus Dick finally admitting that he is a lot more like Bruce than he wants to admit and FINALLY taking over the Batman mantle. I like that growth of character, plus it's a good Refusal of the Call story. There are a lot of comics later on that state he hated being Batman, but I think the whole sacrifice part of yourself for the greater good concept is soooo good. Excited to see how he is in Batman Reborn
