Another fabulous Morganville story told by Eve's pov. I could get used to that :)

You know how every short story collection has at least a couple of stories you suspect were only included to meet a magical number (in this case it's thirteen) or because the editor is friends with the author or something?

The closest this collection comes is Cassandra Clare's entry and that's simply because I don't remember what it was about, despite having read it yesterday. Just about everyone else is already on my "Love them!" list or is now on my "read... more!" list. Bonus points for some of the vampires actually being villains.

13 stories, some were great, some were... Ehhh. But all in all? I give this book a thumbs up. There will be a story in there for every Vampire lover.

I loved some of the stories like Coldest Girl in Coldtown, Kat and The Thirteenth Step. HATED others especially Ambition. Overall a very entertaining read.

I really liked about half the stories in this, and thought the other half were really creepy and I wished had happier endings. Most I really wish were full novels because of the great potential. I felt like many of the stories were just chapters out of much more developed stories, like the sneak-peak at the end of a book.

I couldn't put this book down for a second, making me very exhausted for work the next morning, but well worth it. It is a page turner that kept me interested to the very end and dreading the last page that had come. I am unsure if a few of the stories in here are simply short, but I hope a few turn into, if not already are, books or series of their own. An amazing work and excellent selection of choices.

On their own, I'd probably have enjoyed the stories (sorry, tales) more. But taken together, and as part of this seemingly never-ending tide of vampire stories, not so much. Occasionally there was a glimpse of something new and different with the genre, but mostly it was just the insertion of a vampire, or vampire lore, into a rather generic story.

First of all, this review contains one teensy weensy spoiler.

It's safe to say I won't be reading anymore anthologies anytime soon.

I'd like to say that I enjoyed it, but the truth screams otherwise. I was somewhat bored throughout most stories, and I just wanted it to be over. And I wasn't exactly thrilled about the stories from authors I'd already read from.

I was fairly dissapointed in Melissa De La Cruz's short story "Shelter Island". I thought it was boring and I didn't find the fact that she used one of her characters from another book in this one very appealing.

The stories I did enjoy however were:

The Coldest Girl In Cold Town by Holly Black - I really enjoyd it, it was very different from other vampire books and I found it exciting. I would like to see this as a book.

Undead Is Very Hot Right Now by Sarah Rees Brennan - Yes, this may not have been the most well written out of all thirteen stories, but I really enjoyed it mainly because it was something I could laugh too, and because I found the character charming and appealing.

Kat By Kelly Armstrong - Was okay, nothing special really.

The Thirteenth Step By Libba Bray - Great! I really enjoyed reading this (that one scene was very unexcpected though). I liked how *SPOILER* the main character didn't try to be all morally correct and not kill a human. She did, and I liked that. Most books rant about how the vampire hates doing it morally. This really entertained me.

All Hallows By Rachel caine - I liked it, it was okay. Again, nothing special.

Other Boys By Cassandra Clare - Mmm... I honestly loved the end twist. I really truly did. No Lies.

Ambition By Lili St. Crow - Kinda scared me at times - don't know whether I enjoyed it or not.

The rest that I din't comment about were just, boring. I finished this book thrity minutes ago and I've forgotten what those were about.

My final conclusion is that you're probably better off reading something else, but if you must, well than you must.

Falling to Ash- Karen Mahoney
Moth gets rejected by her birth family, then takes refuge in the love of her new family, who immediately sends her to steal from a Vampire hunter. Sounds to me like BOTH families are abusive.
Overall- Poor, poor Moth. Please don't kill me, Moth.

Shelter Island- Melissa De La Cruz
I like the voice! Much more than I expected, actually. I hope Dylan made it to the mainland.

Sword Point- Maria V. Snyder

The Coldest Girl In Coldtown- Holly Black
And THERE is the darkness that goes with the vampire trope.

Undead Is Very Hot Right Now- Sarah Rees Breenan
I LOVE THIS. It's about a Vampire recruited to join a boy band and love at first sight. You can just tell she loves what she's writing, which for me is the break over. Also, it's hilarious, has a cast of six major characters in 38 pages, and I love it. *flails incoherently about*

Kat- Kelley Armstrong
A spinoff of her Darkest Powers trilogy.

The Thirteenth Step- Libba Bray
Well done, with a believable ending. Not happy, but believable.

All Hallows- Rachel Caine
Because I'm not such a fan of the whole Vampire trope, I didn't think I was ever going to pick up anything by Rachel Caine. However, given how much I enjoyed this story, I may have to change that plan. It was just fun!

Wet Teeth- Cecil Castellucci
This, on the other hand, was not fun. I read it in terror and dread cause I accidentally read the last page first. And yeah. Unhappy times.

Other Boys- Cassandra Clare
I don't wanna spoil it for you, if you're going to read it. The last line has been stuck in my head for two days. "And they were right. There would be other boys." *evil grin*

Passing- Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie

Ambition- Lilith St. Crow
Chilling.

All Wounds- Dina James
The dialogue on this one was delightful. :D And I enjoyed the worldbuilding.
