“…, although we have discovered our Inner Bitches, we have not yet unlocked them.”

it feels like i started this book yesterday. it was such a light a fun read. my copy is filled with underlined lines that are funny and relatable. i was never into the movie, and though i have seen it (quite a while ago), it wasn’t memorable. now, i feel, i have a new appreciation for its easy and time-to-time funny self-deprecating jokes. i enjoyed the subtle writing changes from when it went from ‘her own writing’ (the whole point of Bridget Jones’s DIARY) to the present or past scene descriptions. although, the diary entries for every chapter, moving to the end of the book, became a little bit repulsive.
all in all, v. much enjoyed.

“Emotional fuckwittage”

I think they did a fantastic job picking out the good parts and editing the not so great parts from the book for the movie. I love the movie and Bridget's character does come through in the book, she is still lovely silly Bridget, but just not from this time. The diet talk is really too much and there were some comments here and there that are really not okay to say anymore. But what bothered me the most was the whole plot and ending of the book. It's done so much better in the movie. Mark doesn't really come to justice. Daniel is supposed to be a terrible person, but in the book he is extra terrible and let's not even start on the mother.. The book really is a two star read, but just because of Bridget it gets an extra star.

3 stars

Bridget Jones would be funny for someone who lived through the 90's, alas I did not, so a bunch of references went right over my head. Bridget is kind of annoying at times, funny at others, and plain sad at most. Anyways, time to read the sequel and see how much worse it can get.

A very rare thought but... The movie was better. 🤷 I still enjoyed the book though, especially the last third of the book. Excited to read the others!
