Fans of World War Z will love this book. Maberry returns humanity to zombies in this fast-paced, well-written adventure. Maberry makes zombies a little less scary and reminds us the real monsters are the killers who can think and choose to kill. But at its core, it's the story of two brothers who slowly come to understand and respect one another.

This book was nothing like I expected. The emotional aspects were amazing I thought it'd just be random killing but it wasn't It had me thinking about zombies in a new light and the whole zombie apcolypse thing in a new way too. Benny and Tom's relationship was intriguing to follow. And when that thing I happened I was like "No it can't be true. That can't happen." I almost had to stop reading but I convince myself I had to finish, and I'm so glad I did. I think everyone should read this book it was great.

Loved it!
Loved the characters...loved the development of Benny from a bratty, selfish kid into a thoughtful, mature almost man.

I have somewhat of a crush on Tom and I want to hang out with Nix and Lilah.

I am very much looking forward to both the next book in the series and the coming Zombie apocalypse since I feel much better equipped to survive it after having read this.

Characters were well done but too dark - no hope ultimately.  No more zombie books for me

Rot & Ruin is a book I had been looking forward to reading for a while. It was sitting on my shelf begging to be read and finally I obliged. I am sooo glad I did. This book is amazing! It captivated me from the very beginning, it's a true page turner. You are easily able to connect with the characters and their emotional journey, all of us have had secret crushes and fights with our siblings.

One thing I loved about this book was that even though some characters were only 15, they had real raw & deep emotions. There world is not & possibly will never be like the world we know today and they know it. You get to see them battle feelings of staying in their comfort zone & wanting more from their life & world. You also get to see them grow in maturity over the course of the book. It's an amazing journey considering the time frame of the book is only about a month or so. You see them evolve from having a teenagers maturity to that of an adult.

Another thing about this book is that it's focused around the subject of the living dead, only this isn't your typical zombie book. This looks at zombies from another angle. One of "humaness" (yes I do believe I have created a word). This book shows that zombies are people too, or that they used to be. They have families who love them and grieve for them. It's not their fault that they are the way they are. In most movies you see zombies being killed left & right in all kinds of ways, but this book looks into another way to do it. One very hard, emotional way to do it. I must say I am a bit of a sap & I have teared up once or twice reading this book. One of those times being at the end.

If you're looking for a great book to curl up with & read over a weekend then I highly suggest this one.

Very cool zombie story. Unlike the Forest of Hands and Teeth, this book tries to retain the humanity of the zombies, and contrast it with the inhumanity of those that hunt them. I found the writing to be very well done, giving the reader an exciting story. Perhaps Tom Imura's socratic teaching sessions could have been a little less obvious, but I forgave that for the great story, scene setting, and character development.
