Like I've said in my reread review of [b:Tantalize|353016|Tantalize (Tantalize, #1)|Cynthia Leitich Smith|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1430626302l/353016._SX50_.jpg|343231], I think I've aged out of the target demographic so I can be a little more critical about the actual writing.

Zachary's a guardian angel who's in love with his charge, Miranda. He's watched over Miranda her whole life, always invisible and imagining all the things he'd say or do with her if he'd just be allowed to reveal himself. One unfortunate encounter with a vampire in a cemetery, and Miranda disappears. Zachary's angelic abilities are taken away and he roams around depressed and in despair he failed his duty as a guardian angel and as Miranda's protector. A year later, he's assigned a new task; completion of his task means his holy reinstatement. He goes to Dracula's new castle and meets a familiar face...

I have to say, while this isn't a slow descent into darkness as much of a good vs. evil battle, the murder mystery is much more upfront and a little more fun to figure out than the last book. I might be biased, I still like Tantalize better, but I guess this book works to introduce more concepts and characters. I can't really say it's a super good read; more like, it's there and I read it. The reason it's taken me like 12 years to read it is because I didn't feel invested to read this book, until I found out the next book, which is bringing back our original cast of characters, would interact with some characters from this book as well.

I must confess that as much as I wanted to like Tantalize, I really, really did not. So my hopes for Eternal (even though it doesn't really deal much with the first book) were low. So low that I had to renew the book from the library again and only guilt about potentially keeping it from someone who wanted it more than I did prompted me to read it.

I could kick myself now, because the book is an incredibly quick read in the best sort of way. By the end, I was more than a little sniffly and I truly did not expect to me. At the start, I'm more a Miranda fan than I am a Zachary fan (at least he acknowledges the creepy aspect of his watching over 'his girl') but when Miranda is turned, so is my allegiance. Part of the story is obvious (what Zachary's mission really is) but the end still manages to retain a few twists, and for that I'm grateful.

Although vampires are now overrated (thanks to the Twilight Saga), I really enjoyed this book. The fact that it is written in both Miranda's and Zachary's point of view made it all more enjoyable. This book was really well written and made me want to know more. I would love to read about Zachary's mission to help those vampire's that still have a soul. However, this book could have been better. I believe that the author should have added more romance to the story because I could not sense the love that the characters had for each other. Overall, it was a good book and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Apparently this book is set before Tantalize, and so, the entire restaurant-operating ensemble is nowhere to be seen. It reads more like a companion, set in the same world, but in a different city. Unlike the previous book, which focussed on the workings of a restaurant, Eternal delves right into the paranormal. A vampire kingdom full of aristocracy, human servants and dungeons gave this book an entirely different feel. While this one still suffered from some of the same problems as the last one, I found the alternating perspectives gave a better insight into the characters. Plus mixing vampires and angels, how could I resist.

This book went at lightning pace! There was no character development, no build up of romance and some creepy angel boy staring at a young teenage girl in the shower (to which she's unaware). So much ick! Also seems to bear no relation to the first book of the series (which was miles better in my opinion) other than the supernatural elements, and brings no extra world building or changes to the series.

To be honest I read the book a while ago, but I still remember the story well. And although I loved the Twilight series, I also loved the awesomeness of this book. At times I thought it was slow but I loved the characters and the plot line. This is defiantly a must read for anyone who says they love vampire books!

definitely a quick and easy read. i loved the plot and glad there was barely any romance between them. the plot twist was okay. i wasn’t surprised but i didn’t see it coming also. it was kinda strange how he fell in love with her and watched her in the shower when he’s been by her side since she was a baby. if that happened to me, i would see miranda as a sister more than anything.
