I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Demon Magic and a Martini was such an exciting read and an important one for the series so far. It's action packed, there's character development and secrets come to light. It was awesome.

In Demon Magic and a Martini we get to learn more about the demon magic in this world. A demon is loose in the city and all the guild work together to stop this demon. But demons are hard to kill, so it's pretty dangerous. And ofcourse Tori someone gets in the middle of all this. There is plenty of action, magic and some big focus on the characters too.

This was a very exciting and interesting read. There are some big reveals and secrets that come to light in this book. From book 1 I've been curious about Ezra and his secrets, it's been clear that he has some big secrets, from the scars on his face to some mysterious powers he has and in this book we're finding out pieces of it. It was awesome to find out some of the secrets he has hiding and learn more about his character. And the way it's build-up toward the reveal was done well too. It starts with little hints and when I was pretty sure I knew what was going on with Ezra we slowly start finding out the truth.

It really felt like an important book for the series, things take a turn for the worse, big secrets come to light and Tori has a decision to make, which will impact what happens next. And even with everything we find out even more questions pop up and I am so curious to learn more in future books. I also liked how Tori really doesn't want to know the truth in a sense and how it actually made for an interesting situation. No one is telling her things, but she isn't asking for them either for a long time. There is an interesting bit of character development for her there too. And things touch upon her own issues and troubles a bit too.

I felt this book was a strong one in terms of character development and fleshing out the characters some more. Mostly the main characters (Tori and the three mages), but also some side character of whom we see another side or get more details and some new side characters too that I think will be important in the rest of the series. It's also fun how we get to meet some new side characters, some of which will have an important role in the rest of the series I think.

I liked how the three mages get develop more in this book, Aaron, Kai and Ezra's personalities seem to get fleshed out a bit more and also their bond and the strength of their friendship really shows here. I really liked seeing how they have each other's back and how far that goes. And we also see how Tori fits in this.

There are some hints of a possible future romance in this book as Tori starts feeling some more attraction for one of the guys and I am curious to see if that will turn into more in future books.

It's also an important book in terms of world building as demon magic or the demonica class is not something we heard a lot about in previous books and this book is all about it. There is a lot we learn about demons, how they're summoned, different types of demons and their powers that sort of thing. It was really interesting to see that class get some attention and also still get to see enough about the other classes too. One of my favorite things in this series is still how Tori as a regular human is part of this whole magical community and I liked how in this book we see more of how she is fitting it and holding her own.

To summarize: This was such an exciting and engaging read. There are some big things happening in this book and it was packed with action, tension and some big reveals. It was a hard book to put down as I just wanted to keep reading and find out more. There is some great character development going on in this book and I enjoyed seeing how Tori and the three mages dealt with everything that comes their way in this book. It was great to learn some of the secrets the character were keeping and it really put things in a different perspective. I liked seeing more of the three mages and also how strong their friendship is, which is something you really see in this book. I like the little bit of possible romance hint we get in this book as Tori starts developing some more feelings for one of the guys. It's an important book in terms of world building as we learn more about the demonica class, which was interesting. And I love reading about Tori and seeing how she fits in this all. All in all this was an awesome read and I can't wait to read what happens next!

Sigh, reading this series gives me such satisfaction, they are just so gooooooood! If I have to pinpoint what makes them special... apart from being urban fantasy, filled to the brim with different kinds of magic, hot men and a kick-ass heroine who won't go down quietly? I guess I'd have to say the humour and the fact that is just suberbly written :)

Worldbuilding:
We encountered a form of magic that we hadn't seen much (or at all) before: Demonica. People able to summon and control demons. And what an introduction it was, it sure as hell spiced up things around the Crow and Hammer (in a pretty violent and deadly way).
As always, all scenes and environments were clear and well detailed. We knew where we were, what we were looking at and whom we were running away from (running through a crowd, is NOT easy!).

Character development:
Things get rough, in a very bad way :( and Tori has some difficult decisions to make. She has grown a lot in the past instalments and being an official part of the Crow and Hammer fits her perfectly, but where does she go from there? Oh, and Sabrina's tarot cards really love Tori haha.
Aaron, Kai and Ezra... I wish I had best friends like that *sigh*. Loved how we got a lot more insight into one of them and their bond with each other.
The interaction between them all is just so very well written!
Even with all the magic, all the characters in the book feel real and believable, okay, sometimes a bit over the top, but we all know at least one of those in real life :D

Pacing and flow:
From start to finish you are glued to the book, don't even try to put it down. I read it in one go and it felt over in a heartbeat (without feeling rushed). Great balance between all the action and conversations. Strap yourselves in, it's quite a ride!

The book:
The book itself was well written with no (noticeable) errors. There was no sex described (if that is important to you).
The book is 314 pages long, spread over 24 chapters and told from Tori's point of view.

Final thoughts:
I kinda already said it at the start, the author's books are just amazing. I thoroughly enjoy every one of them (yes yes, devoured is maybe a more appropriate word, I know). I cannot recommend these books enough!
Oh and as the series is already complete, I know which book is next and yay, we met Robin!!! I just can't wait to start on that one!

Guys, what? I loved this book just as much as the last. The dynamic between Tori and the guys is amazing and I just love their interactions. Ezra is rapidly becoming my favorite of the mages and I swear, if anything bad happens to him, I will cry.

SpoilerIS TORI GOING TO END UP WITH EZRA?!

I mean, I'd be okay with that. (shhh!! don't tell the others, but Ezra and Zak are my favorites)

And speaking of Zak...

Are we going to get to see more of my irritatingly handsome druid? Because I really need some more of him in my life right now.

I've been in kind of a reading... slump? slow down? I don't know. I have about 14 library books at home, but none of them have been calling my name. And half of them are contemporary books, which I absolutely have no desire to read right now. But this book was EXACTLY what I needed to read.

I love how strong everyone's sense of friendship is throughout these books. They would do literally anything for each other. I also appreciate all the character growth that's happening. Tori has come such a long way from book one, and a lot of that happened in this book. She finally decided that living in her happy little oblivious bubble wasn't a thing that was going to work anymore.

I love love love the new characters that were introduced in this book, and I'm super excited for the spin off that's going to be happening.

The only thing I don't like is the fact that I have to wait until September/October before I can read anything else by this amazing author (I've read all her other books, obvi) Maybe it's time for a re-read of one of her other series while I wait.
