The Stories
MaryJanice Davidson's "Dead Girls Don't Dance" is part of the Undead series.

Laurell K. Hamilton's "Blood Upon My Lips" is the first 9 chapters of Incubus Dreams (Anita Blake).

A collection of short stories...

Dead Girls Don't Dance: I got this book just to read Mary Janice Davidson's short story. It is a short story that fits in with the Undead series which I am really enjoying. It didn't dissapoint. I liked the fact that these characters are in the undead books and Betsy and Sinclair also show up in this short story. I don't think it really matters where you read this installment because it doesn't give away any story lines from the undead series.

I didn't read the rest of the short stories because I wasn't in the mood. I hope I didn't miss out on a great author.

OK I'm a bit pissed here. I have all the Anita Blake series and have been working my way through them the last two months, fitting in the short stories where the goodreads description tells me to. After I read book 10 [b:Narcissus in Chains|1140601|Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #10)|Laurell K. Hamilton|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1181345096s/1140601.jpg|2644676] I picked up Cravings to read the story that was mentioned in the description above as being story 10.5 in the series. Now after reading book 11 [b:Cerulean Sins|30287|Cerulean Sins (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #11)|Laurell K. Hamilton|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1168063733s/30287.jpg|2953328], it seems that the story in 10.5 takes place AFTER book 11 NOT before which totally buggered up my 'reading it in order'!!!

Talk about confused! In 10.5 I was reading that Anita had previously had sex with Jason because Nathaniel had collapsed and was too weak to feed her. Then in book 11 we read about these events as they happened. Goodreads should have labelled this short story as 11.5 not 10.5! Not happy.

And of course reading a helpful review below has also told me that 10.5 or 11.5 or whatever the hell you want to call it, is just a condensed version of the start of book 12 [b:Incubus Dreams|1140602|Incubus Dreams (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #12)|Laurell K. Hamilton|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1181345110s/1140602.jpg|2963636] so I needn't have bothered with the crap story ANYWAY! It also explains why the short story came to such a bad stunted ending.

Do yourself a favour and just skip this rubbish and read books 9, 10, 11 and 12 in order if you are still following the series. Grrr. Thanks a lot for your help goodreads.

I skipped Hamilton's story, as I'm planning on reading her series in order, and just get confused reading the short stories in various anthologies.

I really enjoyed the other three stories. I enjoyed Rebecca York's so much, that I've added her to my authors to catch up on list.

Ehhhh...good authors, but not so good stories. Anthologies don't always work well.

I read the MJD story cause I'm read the series. It was a good story quick and light. The LKH story is actually part of one of her books.

Decent collection of stories. Davidson’s story is good. Hamilton’s is just the beginning of a book. The other two stories are OK.

Not too wild about this compilation. Perhaps because of the short story context, I didn't sense the connection between the characters. There was little room for building up the tension in the relationships. As for the Hamilton story, I am not that far along in the Anita Blake series, so there were quite a few spoilers and some confusion on my part. I would, however, still seek out lengthier novels by R. York and M.J. Davidson (whom has a great sense of humor!). And as always, I will continue plugging away happily at Hamilton's novels.
