i zoomed through Demon Princess pretty quickly, I was a little disappointed that it took me longer to read this one. I have to admit, itā€™s not nearly as good as the first, but itā€™s still a worthwhile read.

i absolutely love how Demon King was a step up from the first. there were more plot developments, twists, all kinds of things keeping you on your toes. some stuff i was expecting (the fairy thing), but otherwise there were some good twists that i didnā€™t expect at all.

the first character i want to talk about, and what a dick. seth. i donā€™t know what it was (bad writing or the way he was raised) but how can someone be so stupid and blind when facts are clearly presented in front of you? he was very annoying and i think Iā€™ve grown a particular hatred towards him.

with sadi, i wasnā€™t expecting that. nothing makes sense anymore. why. the thing at the end makes no sense to me, even after everythingā€™s explained. i canā€™t trust him anymore, no matter how hard i try. he was one of my favourite characters, now i refuse to believe. also, i imagined him as an arab guy (i donā€™t know where it came from, i just did) but now either he isnā€™t or
Spoilerhis "ever so distant relation" adriana potentially is.

on the note of adriana, she was so damn annoying in this book. in demon princess, i wanted to defend her and whatnot, but in this one i wanted to punch her and make her do something useful.

okay and keldrin was annoying too.

overall, i rate this book 4 stars. i know, my review is shit but negative-based reviews are the most informative. as a whole, the book was great and i recommend to most. just those few things mentioned above- which were mostly things that bugged me rather than ā€œwhat i hateā€. i definitely recommend giving it a go.

This book felt awkward to me. The pacing was weird, and events were meh. I just wasn't super caught up in the story or the characters. Some things felt out of left field, and I was overall a bit bored.

This series is another great one. This book is short but it was packed with lots of stuff! Great characters and a wonderful fantasy world. I love the authors world building in this book. So my review for the first book in this trilogy, Demon Princess, was pretty much a rave review. I loved most everything about the story, and only had a couple things on my wishlist for the next book. Unfortunately, I feel like this book took a step back both in terms of writing and character development. Yes, I know itā€™s a review copy, but I did end up downloading the finished book on Kindle Unlimited to track my progress, and there were still a lot of grammar mistakes. Normally I can look past it, because weā€™re all human and mistakes happen, but some of these mistakes distracted me from reading. I had to go back and reread the sentence to make sure that I grasped what was happening. In addition to that, some of the writing felt a bit juvenile. Thereā€™s one sentence in particular where it said,

Xander has blocked Drakeā€™s attack at the last minute!

I was just kind of like, ā€˜You donā€™t say? Thank you for that Captain Obvious.ā€™

In terms of character development, everyone either became spineless or a jerk. In the first book, Adriana was this kick ass demon princess who refused to become someoneā€™s summon beast. In this book, she kind of tries to be a demon king, but ends up spending a majority of the time wallowing in her self-pity over the fact that she and Keldrin are destined to be mortal enemies. It sounds harsh, but trust me, after a while youā€™d be annoyed too. When she isnā€™t feeling sorry for herself, sheā€™s standing on the sidelines watching the action. There were a couple times where she tried to be helpful, but for a lot of the book, she was a captive, by one kingdom or another, and relied on others to get her out. As for Keldrin, I think he spends a lot of this time wallowing in self-pity as well. He didnā€™t feel as powerful or strong as he did in the first book. It could be that he was overshadowed by his older brother Seth, whom by the way, I hated, whereas in the first book, he was the one doing the overshadowing.

Seth is blinded by hatred for the Demon Kingdom that prevents him from seeing things that are right in front of him. Adriana is literally in the middle of helping Keldrin and yet Seth is convinced that sheā€™s trying to trick everyone. He very much shoots first, asks questions later and it got super annoying, not to mention that he was complete dick about everything he did. Which you'll see toward the beginning of the book.
SpoilerHe parades Adriana through the village on their way to the castle like she's some kind of prize while they throw things at her. She's only guilty by association.

Now, what I liked about the book was that the plot progressed and we had a couple questions from the first book answered. Her brotherā€™s disappearance was finally addressed, and some family history is revealed that I really enjoyed and think will make things interesting (hopefully). Iā€™ll give you one hint, it has to do with Razenā€™s theory about why she was summoned by a mage.
SpoilerHer grandfather is the fairy king and her brother Drake has been in the fairy kingdom this whole time.
We also find out the reason why Sadi is so protective of Adriana, which I did not see coming. At least not in the way that its presented.
Sadi is actually Sebastian Dalman, rightful heir to the throne because Eldren, Adri's father, usurped Sadi's father.

I would recommend this book. Once again, itā€™s a short read at only 181 pages and took me a couple of hours to finish. I hope things take a step forward in the final book, because I really do like this series and the concept behind it. While this one wasnā€™t the best thing Iā€™ve ever read, it definitely had its redeeming qualities.

First of all, I think I said in my review of Demon Princess that this story needs to evolve a bit more and really show whatā€™s going on before I would love itā€¦ And I was right! This sequel has so much action, so much story to tell and relevations to be made, itā€™s almost incredible that it was only 127 pages long.

Lynn has succeeded in creating a believable fantasy world where thereā€™s a constant battle going on, and write a story that isnā€™t too rushed or leaves out details in such a small book. It has easily become one of my more loved fantasy books, especially since you can read it really fast and it wonā€™t feel like the writing was too rushed, which some books can have.
