I loved this way more than I expected to. It probably hit me at the right time, but the main character is angry and she is using that anger well. I’m normally squicked out by teeth but not in this book.

This book was a bit more fantastical than I normally read so it took me a little while to get into it and find my bearings. I ended up plowing through it in a day and I enjoyed it but I’m not sure if I’ll read the sequel too.

Incredible world-building and a heroine as flawed as she is brave - all the things I've come to love and expect from Margaret Owen! The romance and pacing felt a bit off at times, but this took my for a whirlwind ride - right on to the sequel!!

4.5! Enjoyed so much of this book. And Margaret Owen is a new favorite author. Already picking up the next book as I write this.

Beautiful writing, likable characters, original world building and a great plot. I fell in love with Fie as soon as she did the crows money dance.

Probably my one “complaint” is the magic system. And maybe that the love interest was a tiny bit too perfect. I loved him, but he really never says or does anything wrong, which made him feel a bit like a “how to guide” for dealing with certain issues than a real character in some moments. Also I didn’t really get why he liked Fie since she spends most of the book being mean to him….

The Merciful Crow is a solid first book in a YA fantasy duology. I had low expectations going in but I was pleasantly surprised. It does fall into a lot of the familiar YA tropes but the unique world and magic system made up for the more repetitive YA fantasy plot points.

This book was not good at all. I got the signed copy too. I could not follow along with it, a lot of stuff was happening in the beginning all at one time and as I continued to read I just got further and further lost. So it’s a DNF for me.

After reading two books of Margaret Owen i've come to the conclusion that she never disappoints.

Her characters have depth, you can see how their personal experiences influence the way they act and think. The humor and the interactions make you smile and the romance isn't forced or cliché at all.
The fictional world the author presents to us is amazing.

I read this in one day cause i couldn't stop thinking about what would happen next. I'll definitely recommend this book.

I get why people enjoyed this book, but for me it as way to cringy and tropey for my liking. I didn't connect with the characters and I didn't give a shit about the romance.

This was so good!! Fantastic worldbuilding. Interesting magic system. Amazing characters. I absolutely love Fie and Tavin. Their banter was great. Can't wait to read the next one!

2.5 stars. Really wasn't into this. It's partially my fault for making some assumptions about the romance based on the synopsis and some reviews that turned out to be incorrect. Possibly for that reason, I just couldn't get into the actual romance at all. I like slow burn, but I need some sort of development, and this felt like it came out of nowhere. The world seemed interesting but I also struggled to follow what was going on and never got into the plot. I don't think this was terrible, but it wasn't what I was expecting or looking for, and I have no plans of continuing with the series.
