"My name is my nature. I can track a body through wind and rain, for I track not the body, but the soul within."

I liked the graphic novel, especially some of the quotes. But I didn't give it 4 stars because the scenes seemed to jump too much around and was at times confusing to follow.

I might read the next two Graphic novels just to see where it is going.

"I retreated deeper into the wilderness of Wakanda. I followed no man, but took wisdom from root, bark, and earth."

cerebral-ass comic that meditates on national identity and the duty of a king to his people. beautiful art and powerful ladies (some of whom are in love!).

I think I can safely say comic books aren’t for me. I have tried on many occasions, but they just don’t work well in my brain. I didn’t find the story to be bad, I understood what they were trying to do. But it just didn’t work for me. I think I can safely say this isn’t fault of the book but me as these aren’t my ideal genre.

deciding not to rate as i’m not too sure on how to rate a comic book, but i enjoyed reading it! and the artwork was absolutely gorgeous.

It's clear this was meant to set the stage for what comes next, not necessarily be a full arc of its own.
It nailed the setup insofar as I'm bummed there's about 15 holds for book 2, and I'll have to wait to see what's next.

I miss the days when you could just jump into comics at any issue. I was lost with this one.

Granted, those missing pieces weren't too hard to get over, but just hard enough. The story was interesting, but I felt that there were too many subplots and not enough pages being dedicated to each subplot in one go. The jumping around is normal for comics but it just didn't work for me this time. I wonder if I was judging Mr. Coates, too harshly on his first attempt at writing comics?

In any event, there's enough here to like and perhaps my disappointment is due to the fact that it was book one and therefore setting up the rest of the story arc. The trouble is, I'm not sure I'm motivated to go back and snag book 2.
