Wonderful story. Great message, and makes for a fast read. Also really made me consider taking a trip to soul search!!

If you ever had the inkling to leave everything behind, load up your house on your back, and walk through this world enjoying the wildness it has to offer, then this book is a must read. I want to take the trail with no cares in the world...leaving stress, technology and "the real world" behind me. Brava, Cheryl!! Brava!!

This book made me want to hike the PCT. A really great story about someone overcoming a lot of challenges and mistakes by hiking more than 1000 miles.

Strayed has a very poetic way of describing things, and for the most part that serves her very well in this memoir. I did not expect to cry during this read, but I did at several points, once getting so upset I had to put it down for a few minutes to regain my balance. But I got tired of reading her inner whining, the constant self-pity mixed with self-aggrandizement. At points it felt earned, but at others I felt like shaking her and saying "WE GET IT. YOUR LIFE SUCKS RIGHT NOW."

I picked this up because I have long-distance hiking ambitions and because I'm a fan of A Walk in the Woods. Although Wild is more of a memoir than a pure hiking travelogue, I thoroughly enjoyed the book for it's candid revelations, spirit of independence and tenacity, and evidence of camaraderie among fellow hikers.

Half-way through, I realized that I had also read and enjoyed Strayed's novel, Torch. I am now following her Dear Sugar column as well.

I enjoyed Cheryl's tale of her adventure on the PCT. I liked the progress of her thinking and her own confidence throughout her journey. My one reservation against the book is the amount of swearing in it. I admire her courage and determination to hike the PCT on her own.

Very well written and interesting read. Didnt like Cheryl too much in the beginning but as she developed throughout the book began to appreciate her more and the story she had to tell.

I actually watched the movie when it came out several years ago, but I'm still glad I read the book to know the experiences and emotions the author felt in detail. Cheryl Strayed is the definition of ambitious and strong-willed as she navigated through extremely harsh conditions on the Pacific Crest Trail as an amateur hiker. The journey was equal parts dangerous and cathartic, but it helped her make sense of her tumultuous world by stepping outside her environment and step up to another challenge. I thought it would not be as entertaining since I'm not into camping/hiking life, but it was inspiring to learn about Cheryl's accomplishments.
