Originally read Aug. 11, 2010. Very amusing middle school read. Great for reluctant readers and those that love star wars.

The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angelberger is narrated by Tommy, a 6th grade student with a lot of questions about his classmate Dwight's finger-puppet who has recently been dispensing wisdom around the school. He's certainly seems to have more savvy than Dwight himself so Tommy has decided to collect some anecdotal evidence to determine if Yoda has some actual powers of insight. He interviews everyone that Yoda has assisted over the past few weeks to find out exactly what Yoda has advised and if it was helpful. His other friends chime in with their take on Yoda's recommendations and add some entertaining cartoons. The Strange Case of Origami Yoda is really the perfect middle grade novel with its quirky and humorous treatment of a range of typical MS issues. Hard to keep the characters straight; relying on fonts to differentiate the narrators = weak. But a cute, enjoyable read, nevertheless.

Yuck. Pretty much the only thing I liked about this book was the origami instructions at the end. The story was dull and predictable and the characters lacked substance. My students love this, but I found it really disappointing.

When Tommy's weird friend Dwight brings a Yoda finger puppet to school everyone writes it off as another odd quirk of Dwight's, but when Yoda starts dispensing advice that actually works Tommy decides to find out if Origami Yoda is for real. He complies a case study (this novel), which includes stories told from multiple character's perspectives, complete with illustrations and comments from both Tommy and his non-believing friend Harvey.

This is a hilarious take on all the drama of middle school. Angleberger has an authentic voice, and the stories are short and entertaining. The audio version includes multiple actors portraying the different characters, and it's a fantastic production.

I read this at the behest of my 8 year-old daughter. She has read through this series twice and is on her third time. The book has humor, a story kids can relate to, and lots of fun Star Wars references.

A very cute book. Sounds just like kids to listen to an origami paper.
