A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy!

There are some great character developments in this book, and some scenes are reaaally good.

The final battle feels lackluster though, and the book is trying a bit too hard to try and redeem the Darkling near the end in my opinion.

The ending is really sweet!

something about this series was very surface level; i was never able to get as into most of the characters' stories and plots as i felt like i was supposed to. there was also so much worldbuilding to the point where things felt repetitive. there are only so many vaguely russian sounding fantasy words you can throw in a series before they all start sounding the same.

the love interests in this series were also somewhat strange. the darkling went nowhere; they had a thing in the first book that had an on and off feeling for the other two books, but eventually went nowhere as he kept revealing himself to just be a sociopathic freak at every turn. nikolai was my absolute favorite of the love interests. i loved the banter and his shared goals and understanding with alina as to the future they wanted for the kingdom. he was the most interesting of the 3 main love interests and the most interesting as a standalone character before he got turned into some kind of freaky ass dark magic pterodactyl by the darkling and then turned human again for the last like 50 pages. mal was boring at best and annoying at worst. i get the childhood friends to lovers thing, but it felt so often that they were incompatible and had outgrown each other. him being the third amplifier was also a strange twist given that he had been in all 3 books thus far and had been around after they found the second amplifier and yet nothing happened.

idk these were kind of mediocre overall and i might go back and change my other reviews to 3 stars

“Hope was tricky like water. Somehow it always found a way in.”
The first half of the book was boring, the second half was good but the last 50 pages were GREAT!
The book stars when Alina and her group were underground by the protection of the Apparant. So let’s just start with the Apparant: he makes me so mad! His attitude always makes me frustrated and the way he treated Mal and David, and all the others, like they were traitors and Alina should take care from them.
As for Alina, her character was strong and beautiful written, but the way she ended was heartbreaking, specially this line as from Mal’s point of view, “sometimes he would find her standing by the window, fingers playing in the beams of sunlight that streamed through the glass.” Now is so sad! I mean, why did she have to lose her powers? Or . . . kill the Darkling. I loved him so much, his character is beautiful and amazing, and the way he is written is gorgeous. His last words were the hardest words for me to read through the whole book, and, of course, the last line in chapter 18. I wish there was another ending for him, with Alina, I feel that he’s better with Alina than Mal.
Mal wasn’t a bad character but I didn’t like him much myself. I pity him, and when they realized that he was the third amplifier it was a big shock! It was a good plot twist and i liked it. But, I can’t deny that i cried when he died, tho i knew that there is always a way back for him.
Now, Nikolai, he’s probably my favorite character in this trilogy! And after his incident with the Darkling, i was praying through the whole book that Leigh Bardugo would bring him back to normal, and happily, she did! His character is so adorable and hilarious, I was hoping wither him or the Darkling would end with Alina.
I also loved Tamar, Tolya, Genya and David. I did like Zoya, Nadia, and the rest of the group, but I didn’t get attached to them as much as those four!
This book was a good read, an enjoyable one, but the first book is the best!
I hope to like Six of Cows duology better that this trilogy!

Nikolai y the Darkling me encantaron.

Okay, it was a good ending. This trilogy wasn't the best thing I've ever read, neither was the worst. It was... meh. The first book was disappointing, the second was a lil better, thanks to Nikolai , and this one was good. I didn't like the start, but the ending turned out fine.

Out of the trilogy, this book was my favorite. Alina and Mal both grew up and developed into fantastic characters. The plot moved at a quick pace and there was just enough of a taste of everything; adventure, romance, mystery, fantasy, and suspense. The supporting characters were amazing and their banter with Alina, Nikolai, and Mal was like a close family. Watching the journey that Alina went through and where she ended up is almost comforting somehow. I think in order for Alina to grow as much as she did, she had to lose what she did, she needed to lose that part of herself to become truly whole.

The battle with the Darkling took more from Alina that she wanted, less than she hoped, but gave her a little more than she bargained for. Alina, the pitifully small Second Army, and Mal go on a journey to help Nikolai wrestle Ravka back from the Darkling. But the end results are not without tragedy, many friends and acquaintances are lost along the way, and transformation are undergone as they all fight the darkness with light. The best hope that Nikolai, Alina, and Ravka have are for Alina to obtain all three Amplifiers and destroy the Darking and the Fold, no matter the cost.
