Intersection

There was a lot going on in this book and quite an introduction into this series. I was excited to find this new author in the KU program and try it out. This ends in a cliffhanger and though I hate them, I'm more accepting when I can just move on to the next book! This story has kept me on the edge of my seat and I can't wait to see what comes next! And Alex and Cassidy are terrific, as are their family's!

I read the series originally and loved it so I was excited to find it on Audible! The narrator does a great job of bringing this book to life.

I enjoyed this political thriller romance. The story follows FBI Agent Alex Toles who is assigned to protect Cassidy O'Brien. The romance is an insta-love, which aren't my favorite, but the political intrigue kept my attention. I liked both Alex and Cassidy, but the interactions between Alex and Dylan, Cassidy's 6 year old son, were the best.

The political plot line was enjoyable. The author did a good job of laying out clues but doesn't hold the readers hand. In an effort to keep aspects of the mystery alive, there were times that the characters would discover something but it wouldn't be revealed to the reader until later. It was nice having a story that kept me turning over the details and trying to put the pieces together.

Given the larger story line, this book ends on a cliffhanger. I wish this story line was finished in this book and wasn't one of those large conspiracy plots. Also, while the mystery was slowly unraveled the romance had a lot of repeating sentences. It felt like there were only a couple of ways the character thought or showed their emotions, which made many of the scenes seem repetitive.

All in all, I enjoyed the book and will look into the second one. I would recommend to fans of 24 or Alias.

This book had an interesting premise that just failed to deliver. There are definitely much better romantic thrillers out there.

To start with it wasn't very thrilling at all. The plot was a slog to get through. Despite events happening very rapidly, the reading experience felt very slow and repetitive with entire sections dedicated to completely irrelevant descriptions.

The characters failed to grip, though there was the potential within them that just wasn't realised or fleshed out here. The main character was too many things at once. She was FBI, NSA, ex-military, besties with the president etc. and her flaws and backstory weren't given the depth and exploration they needed.

The romance was rushed. These specific characters, coming from these specific backgrounds falling in love this quickly did not make sense to me at all. Then the repeated 'I love you's were just too much and really grating as a reader.

The characters weren't given enough space to develop, and for the reader to believe why they would love each other. In this book, they're either doing very mundane, boring, everyday tasks, or being bounced from plot point to plot point. There is a middle-ground there that should be struck for this type of thriller, but this has failed to be achieved here.

I had really hoped this book would be better than it was, as from the description it sounded like something I would love.

I couldn't put this book down. I kept telling myself one more chapter. I loved Alex, Cassidy and Dylan. There was so much going on I was always interested to see what was going to happen next. Can't wait to continue on with the series.

Insta love and insta mommy aside, I also had issues with:

The repeated lack of communication between Alex and Cassidy.
Alex's remarkable capacity to jump to the wrong conclusion just about every time she and Cassidy have a conversation.
These two "looking at the woman she loved". Apparently they don't have names.
All the I love you's.
A shit hot FBI agent (ex NSA agent, military hotshot etc) going for a run, because her emotions are just so overwhelming, and leaving the woman and child she is supposed to be protecting from a deranged stalker all alone to fend for themselves. How very professional.

It got to the point where I no longer cared about the intrigue part of the plot line and just could not wait for this one to end.

I read it ish. To be honest I didn't finish it. I struggled with how quickly the two main character fell in forever love. Not because it doesn't happen but I wasn't able to feel it in the book. The fact that I didn't finish reading the book is probably to my own detriment as I'm sure there was plenty of great content along the way.
A great concept/story idea but not quite executed in a way that worked for me.

On a quiet day, during the beginning of the Covid pandemic, when faced with a lack of social connection, I began taking long solitary walks. During these walks, I utilized audio books to keep me company. Having newly come out as a lesbian I needed characters that would touch my soul. Finding Nancy Healy's tales regarding Alex and Cassie were exactly the balm I needed.

I am very pleased to read the books, for myself, for the first time. I have never felt so deeply connected to any character as I do to Alex Toles.

Read the books. Best advice I can give you.

The dialogue was an absolute mess and the story was too fast paced. Too much dialogue too little substance.

Constant use of ellipses is one sure way to ruin a book.

The plot itself was good.

I’ve been told the other books are better so I’ll continue.
