I don't think I've ever read a book where the author more obviously despised women. Like on a very deep, very sick level this man clearly believes women are trash. I read his Acknowledgements wherein he mentions his girlfriend and holy shit do I fear for that poor girl.

I've also never read a book that went from five stars at the beginning to one star at the end. The first couple stories were honestly very funny and sharp and I enjoyed them immensely. By the end I was just totally disgusted by this men's rights activist bullshit. I promise you at some point this douchebag has worn a fedora and used the phrase "men would like you better if you just--" in real life.

Fuck this guy.

Offbeat fun

Breezy and funny. Not as good as Ant Farm, but worthwhile and surprisingly touching in a few spots. Would give it 3.5 stars if possible.

This was a really hilarious book and very insightful too - I don't know whether this will change as I gain more relationship experience though, who knows?
All the stories were very clever and I am keen to read more of Simon Rich's books in the future.

A collection of 30 short stories on everything ranging from the magical to the mundane, including sirens luring men to their death, a Tinder for dogs, the gods of Olympus doing an intervention on Cupid, NASA proposal, and a post-apocalyptic world with only one woman. I’m still trying to process the stories, so maybe I’ll update the review in the future. But for now, I can say that I enjoyed the collection and my favourite story is The Present. It’s a poignant story with a sci-fi element.

Humorous and strange...all shared unspoken and spoken truths about relationships and dating. Some stories were quite clever and others a bit perverse.

I loved this book. It has a combination of short stories about how men perceive women and getting them.

My favorites was the dog miss connection. So funny and hilarious.

Two words: Absolutely Delightful.
The short stories in The Last Girlfriend on Earthare so charming. Simon Rich has an endearing sense of humor. He makes me believe that men still believe in love. Even for the non-readers this is a great little book that is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud. Missed connections for pets. God’s argument with his girlfriend. The man who stages a public protest to get a girl to date him. First sexual experiences. Infidelity. Jealousy. Therapy. A drunk cupid. Draft day for relationships. The Last Girlfriend on Earth. These heartfelt, honest, short stories are the kind that you can’t wait to read to someone. I hear myself petitioning, “No, I swear, it’s really funny and will just take a minute.” If I were from Brooklyn, I’m sure the stories would mean that much more; having been there certainly helped. But geographical experience isn’t what is necessary to enjoy this book. It’s the experience of loving, being loved, and sometimes losing that love that counts. That’s the stuff that gives this little book its universal appeal.

Actually just 3.5 stars. One of the funniest short story collections I've read but a little too sexist on a lot of parts. "Magical Mr. Goat" is probably the absurdest of the lot.
