Thank the gods I didn't judge this book by its cover because both that and the title are pretty damn bad. But the content within is so damn good. Really scratched the itch I had for a good gay paranormal mystery with a big splash of romance.

It has its pop culture cringe moments, but I'll forgive them. And it introduces a lot of side characters (not including the suspects of the murder mystery), but since it's the first book of a series I'm hoping I'll get to know them better in later installments.

EM Denning led me to try this series and it’s a reminder that I should trust EM in all things!!

I adore suspense/detective romances, especially serials.  These two are intriguing, and I just know they are going to be pretty special.

This is my first foray into ghostly paranormal romances, so I’m excited to see how that all plays out too.

I love all the snark, pushy ghosts, and a chance for a second chance at love. There is nothing better than two people who are meant for one another, who fell apart and get an opportunity to set things right. But not without some work. And I have no doubt theirs going to be some interesting times ahead.

This was performed by narrator Noah Michael Levine, the first time for me, and he was excellent. I really enjoyed his voice, pacing, and portrayal of the characters.

started on a whim and I’m in love!

I saw this book recommended somewhere and was like, you know, why not?
Thank you to random person because this book was PHENOMENAL.
Although there was bits and pieces of a backstory that I was a bit confused on (like did I miss a 0.5 with relationship deets?) it didn’t even matter because again, PHENOMENAL.
We’ve got the FBI. We’ve got hot police dudes. We’ve got a wild, wacky hippy family. And we have REAL GHOSTS. Gah! The way I was addicted and read this SO fast and I just cannot wait to see where the ghosts lead our two men onto next!

I am in love with Rain and Danny! Rain is an FBI agent who sees ghost. He gets assigned a case in his hometown working with his ex-boyfriend, Danny. Rain stays with his ex while investigating a cold case and romance ensues. I fell in love with the characters and the humor. This is a definite 2021 fav!

I liked this story it was engaging and I enjoyed the Paranormal aspect, but Danny and Rain, at times I couldn't feel the chemistry.

I think that if we had more chemistry or something with the two I would have enjoyed it more. Everything felt a little surface level. I did enjoy listening to the book though, I have started and stopped this book about 2 times before grabbing the audio book and finishing it.

I think that I will wait until my Scribd will let me listen to book two, I don't want to use a credit on Audible for the second book.

Overall enjoyable, but wished for more.

I wasn't vibing with the characters at all. Lots of things they said and did annoyed me. Just not invested in them 🤷

It's not that this was terribly written or that the mystery and paranormal aspects were awful. What it boils down to is that I didn't vibe with the characters. Rain was okay. I didn't love him, but I didn't absolutely detest him either. I don't think I could get a great read on Danny. He didn't feel as real to me. Their contentious relationship just...didn't work for me. Maybe it was that it was too real? Too bittersweet? Not enough romance? Whatever it was, I wasn't into it. And that's because I read romance novels as a form of escapism. When real life problems butt in too hard, they ruin it.

The jokey casual style of Rain's narration didn't help my enjoyment, though I've definitely suffered through worse.

Both men's weirdly casual approach to police work and abusing witnesses also hit a wrong note for me, particularly in our current time of mass protests against police brutality. It makes it difficult to want to root for renegade cop types. And I guess this is the type of media that helps glamorize the use of excessive force and departure from proper procedure. So that's a yikes. Maybe these types of books can't really offer escapism to minorities who have to worry about being murdered by the police for no reason. I mean, shit, Google COINTELPRO and the FBI's assassination of a 21-year-old Black Panther activist in the 1960s. Uh, feels a little weird rooting for the FBI guys!

I distinctly remember looking down at my progress, so I can tell you this turned into a hate read at exactly 30%. The book dragged so miserably I began to wonder when, if ever, I would finish.
