'...like the archangel who aspired to omnipotence, I am chained in eternal hell.'
I had to read Frankenstein to study in Grade 12 English, and at first I completely hated it. To be fair, there wasn't really a point where I liked it much at all, but it did get a little better. From about the middle when the monster started learning things and doing things, I felt a bit more invested in the story.
Frankenstein: This character to me was so annoying at the beginning, though he got his karma and a half. Towards the end I felt bad for him; his character was utterly self-obsessed though his consequence was on a whole different level.
The monster I have mixed emotions for. I 100% liked him and pitied him from the beginning-middle, and originally understood his anger and actions. Despite this, as his actions became worse and worse with more malice, I began to dislike him.
Basically, what I am trying to say is I fully liked none of the main characters. I generally don't read books like this, but I guess it was a change and overall wasn't AWFUL.

This was fascinating. Been a bit since I'd read a classic work, so the manner of writing took some time to get accustomed to. These can be so overwrought and hyperbolic often times, but it ended up being quite gripping and not at all what I expected it to be, having had only Hollywood knowledge of the tale. Compared to cinema, the original's notion of a tremendously articulate, philosophical AND physically overwhelming creature is so unexpected and unsettling from a horror standpoint. Superbeast!

Amazing, I could not recommend this story enough. I am speechless. I really enjoyed the monsters character and how the lines between right, wrong, and justifiable got blurred immensely. Everyone should read this beautiful story.

I finally decided to buy a physical copy of this book.i may reread it because it's been years since i first read it but i don't know.if i'm ever in the mood, i'll check it out.
from what i remember, it's an excellent book but yeah it's a bit overhyped. i feel like watching Frankenstein movies is more fun than reading it

I had a hard time putting this book down! I had not seen a Frankenstein movie before, but I think most people have the images from at least one of them. I was surprised that I felt compassion for the monster. Wouldn't Victor have know how ugly this creature was when creating him? Victor never really takes responsibility for actions or his creation's actions until he loses everything important to him. While I had a hard time believing how eloquent the montster could be - I loved it when he had the opportunity to tell his story. I never root for the bad guy, but really who is the bad guy in this story? Another classic I'm very glad i took the opportunity to read.
