So I wasn’t originally going to read this book. I am slightly ashamed to admit that I do kinda often judge a book by its cover, and by its title, and I really need to stop because I have nearly missed out on some really good books because of this. When I first saw this book I was pretty much immediately put off by the cover and the title. they made me think that it was going to be something completely different to what it actually was in the end. I don’t know what I thought it would be, but I certainly didn’t think it would be a contemporary romance. The reason why I bought this book in the end was because I saw a review of it that said it was good, and I’m really glad I did give it a chance in the end because I really enjoyed this book. It was really cute and I really love cute romance novels. I did find it a bit weird at first, with all the different points of view from people around Gabe and Lea, and that made it a bit hard to get into and it felt a bit slow, but once I got used to it, I really got into it and it went a lot quicker and I’m really glad I read it. AND OMG THE ENDING WAS SO ADORABLE I NEARLY DIED!

So this book is told from 14 different peoples points of view, but never from Lea or Gabe’s point of view. I thought this was an interesting way to do it, and I definitely liked the idea more the further into the book I got.

Out of all the different points of view, Victor was my least favourite. Victor is a classmate of both Gabe and Lea, and like all the other people whose points of view are used in this book, he wants Gabe and Lea to get together. What really bugged me was his reason for wanting to get together. It just seemed rather weak to me. Like, he was annoyed with the sort of cute way they acted around each other, which didn’t seem like something that would change if they got together, so to me his reasoning seemed a bit off.

Most of the other points of view I was cool with, although I found the bench and the squirrel a little bit weird. They were both interesting as they provided a different take on things, but one or two of the benches points of view seemed to me that they were just chucked in because we hadn’t heard anything from the bench for a while, and sometimes didn’t even have any information about Gabe and Lea at all, which made me feel that it was a bit unnecessary.

My favourite points of view were Casey, Gabe’s best friend, and Maribel, Lea’s roommate, as most of the information about how Gabe and Lea were progressing with their relationship came from them, considering they had the most contact with the pair.

A Little Something Different was a very cute book. It was a fun contemporary and very fast read. I thought that it was well written, besides few mistakes, however there were a few things I would've changed. I really enjoyed how many different point of views there were but I think I would have liked it better if the squirrel and bench had been replaced with different characters. While on the subject of characters, my favorite would have to be Inga, the creative writing teacher, just for the fact that she was so fun and I loved how invested she was in this relationship between her students and how determined she was to make sure they got together or at least had a chance. Altogether I gave this book 4 stars because while it was a cute, short read there were several things that I didn't absolutely love and thought it could use some improvement. That being said if you are looking to get out of a reading stump or just want something fast-paced and short but sweet I would definitely recommend this book.

The 14 viewpoints were a cute touch, but I felt the romance and relationship a bit overly simplistic. Gabe was simply one of the most frustrating characters I have ever encountered.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this was not my kind of book. Writing from a million perspectives seems like the sort of gimmick you thinks sounds cool but then discover it's a lot harder to execute, and I really did not enjoy it. The squirrel and bench perspectives are supposed to be unique and interesting but I just found them silly and written with the same disintresting voice as the other characters. I didn't really care about any character. I think the idea is cool, but would be very hard to do in a way that I enjoy.

This was an awesome, unique and lovely book. I am really happy that I had the chance to read it.

Let's just start with what makes it unique. We have ~14 POVs and the main characters aren't one of those. Those 14 POVs are how we learn and see our main characters. Each POV has something to do with the pair. We have a bus driver who sees them often on his line, a bench (yes, a bench!), friends, and a few other characters.

I really loved seeing the story unfold, the 2 main characters slowly getting together, friendship to love. It was super adorable and I really enjoyed it. Of course I was sometimes hoping we would get a POV from the main characters, just to see things from their perspective.

My favourite POVs would be the Bench and the Squirrel. Give voice to those who normally don't speak is really fun and creative and I just had so many laughs while reading those 2 POVs. Even my boyfriend (I read these parts aloud to him) had a few laughs and found it all fun.

I loved how the romance started off slowly and then grew and grew. It was really realistic, unlike so many books where characters just fall instantly in love without anything happening beforehand. This is really a breath of fresh air.

All in all I would truly recommend this book. You will love it, adore and want more books from this author. :)

I really don't know why people gave this book 5 stars... The way it was written felt like some amateur wattpad author wrote it. This story had 14 different point of views, but it missing the main characters point of view. Even though the main characters had their own set of dialogues, it would have been better if the author included Gabe and Lea's pov. The point of views which i enjoyed the most were the bench's pov and the squirrel's pov. The story started to pick up towards the end when finally the two characters were confessing their feelings for each other through the use of creative writing. The story ended abruptly.

All in all, this book was not as enjoyable as the cover. As the quote goes; "never judge a book by its cover"...

Actual rating : 2.5 stars

I absolutely adored this book. It's not the strongest love story in terms of plot, but I think the format of the book totally makes up for that. I think it was awesome that the story was told in a non-traditional manner, taking the perspectives of all the people involved in Gabe and Lea's life, and never once being told from either of their perspectives. At first, I thought having characters like the Bench and Squirrel! were weird and a little annoying. But then I realized how those characters were needed to help us get into those more private moments and contributed to the storyline. I also loved that the story was set on a college campus, since I'm still in the academic life myself and find that setting the most comforting. I read this book in between some other more traditional and more dense books, so having this easy and delightful read was such a nice experience to have. I'm really excited to ready Hall's next book, once I have the chance to get my hands on it! :)
