I just really enjoyed reading this. It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything by Emma Chase and there were flaws in this: parts of it felt dated, some of the humour, uses of language, and so on, didn’t really work for me at all, particularly the scene where
the hero, Jake, blames her for nearly being sexually assaulted. I also felt like some plot points were a bit forced, and Chelsea’s character felt underdeveloped compared to Jake.

All that aside, though, I had a lot of fun reading this, and I read it in pretty much one sitting. It was very readable, and I think did a good job combining humour with the more serious elements of the plotline. Emma Chase certainly packed a lot into this book - I don’t think there were any dull or slow moments, the story just tripped along and I barely noticed that I was getting through it.

Having Jake’s POV for the entire novel was a refreshing change, and it was interesting to see things from his perspective. The way he was with the kids was the real saving grace of his character: he was definitely annoying at times, self-interested and arrogant, but the way he was with the children was genuinely sweet. Seeing how his character softened over the course of the book was really nice, coming to a really satisfying conclusion.

As I said earlier, I definitely felt like Chelsea wasn’t as developed as well as she could have been - I liked her, but I didn’t think we really got a sense of who she was. Still, the romance in this was great - they had good sexual tension and the sex scenes were very hot and well-written. I really rooted for them as a couple, and for the little (or not so little, actually) family they were creating together.

Overall this book had good angst, some sweet moments, a lot of steam, and a satisfying ending, and whilst there were a few flaws and things I would change about it, I can’t pretend that I didn’t have a good time reading it.

I f$&ken love Jake, he is hilarious. There were so many times I laughed out loud and even rolled around the floor it was so funny. The one liners and banter was even better in this book, I wish I knew someone like this growing up. Loved the narrators, spice lvl low but flow, plot and all the funny stuff made up for it. Can’t wait to listen to the next book, totally going to finish this series and even find other books by Emma

Adorable

Absolutely enjoyed this book! What I liked most is how a bad ass like Jake Becker could fall so completely under the spell of Chelsea and her six nieces and nephews. It was such an uplifting book, and at the same time, wicked funny because he was a total dork and newbie in the child caring business. The six kids were just adorable with all their mischievousness and how they got attached to Jake and consider him "their lawyer". I got a kick of how Riley called him and not her aunt when she got in trouble, and he was harassed by the summons but at the same time he went running to the rescue. The interactions with the cop were also funny, referencing his babysitting techniques.

The love story between Chelsea and Jake was lovely, although the love story between Jake and the kids was more tender and precious. Chelsea was a real heroine, dropping everything and coming to raise her nephews and nieces. I loved how Jake changed from a cynical guy to a smitten guy (lust as first) and then it was so much fun to see how the kids corralled his feelings. It was a great love story and totally uplifted my feelings.

The Brooklyn Library has this series so I'm sure I'll make my way through number 3 and 3.5. They're enjoyable contemporary romances that are on the edge of rom-com. So far both heroes have been alpha 'players,' but they meet smart, strong women and we end up seeing their soft, gooey centers.

I liked Chelsea (our heroine) but she was almost too perfect. My favorite part was the family of 6 grieving kidlets. They were trouble, but also smart and caring and worked together as a family.
