I saw so much of myself in this: being an essentially creative person and wanting attention for that but also being extremely shy, check; bullied at school for being fat/liking reading &learning/getting on with the teachers easier than I did the kids, check; hating PE, check (I like to think that, if I'd been in school with her we could've been friends, I certainly would NEVER have made fun of her for wearing glasses - my best friend in primary school wore glasses, I seem to remember that we spent an inordinate amount of time looking for the lens that kept falling out. A clear lens. On a playground); struggling with anxiety and low confidence, check. YES, this is a book I wished someone had given me at sixteen. But I have it now so it's all good ;D
Funny and (hilariously) filthy as would expect but also intelligent, warm, touching and with some genuinely down to earth advice. Read it. Now.
