I cannot remember the last time a book made me truly cry the way this one did. This book is simultaneously a love story and a story about loss and grief. Reid did such an amazing job at making the characters and story feel so real that you are able to experience the same feelings as Elsie, the main character. Such a beautifully tragic story.

For whatever reason I can rarely bring myself to "dnf" a book. This is one I feel like I should have. There's nothing technically "wrong" with it, it just drug on, and it's just depressing honestly. I've heard good things about this author but I was not fond of the writing style, either. This was her first book, though, so maybe I'll give her another try.

TJR takes the reader through the gruesome complexities of grieving and the doubt that comes along with it. She defines what constitutes “real” love and if there is a way to measure it. The book navigates all stages of grief and shows no loss looks or feels the same. The martyrdom of someone who has passed can make moving through life after them as difficult as taking off the rose-colored glasses.

Such a good read as TJR’s debut book, the story being written based off of a moving Craigslist post from 2009. Elsie & Ben’s life together is short & leaves Elsie to determine a path alone (this hit home like I am sure it would to many). She has never met Susan, Ben’s mom, which their relationship & sorrow is told along side chapters on Ben & Elsie’s relationship. Good debut which has led to many great books by TJR!!

the way the main character’s grief was portrayed was so beautiful and meaningful to me. i related to her so much; i could not put this book down! i’m going to be thinking about it for a long time.
