this is an excellent example of an epic fantasy tale. I particularly love how the author weaves in major and minor conflicts, and the series ends by honoring how each conflict resolves. while I certainly still have curiosity about different elements of the world that haven’t yet been expanded upon, it doesn’t take away from the story as a whole or make the world building appear sloppy (quite the opposite!). if you’re looking for a meaty series where you can watch an author grow as a writer throughout, experience a world where dragons can be your familiar, and go on a wild adventure with a boy who never believed he was anything special until he was, then I highly recommend this series. Paolini truly does the fantasy genre justice.

The way Eragon is able to challenge the king is kind of a cop out, but I still enjoyed it since it did dive into the trauma the dragons faced and allowed them to fight back as well. I also wish there was some way that Earagon could have stayed, he has his reasoning but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it ended happier and more fulfilling. The ending also leaves a lot unanswered. What about Arya's developing feelings? Angela's past? The werecats future? Does Earagon reach a safe space to house the dragons? Does Saphria have children after mating? Does that mate bond apply to Earagon as well since it was mentioned in an earlier book that they're bond of love will include the other? Anyways, it was a good read, better than the previous books but i wish more happened rather than just explaining the world or emotions.

I have read this many times and adore the series over all but I have never been a fan of the ending. I get to it someday I really want to finish before reading murtagh

I must say I found the ending rather underwhelming. There was a LOT of falling action after Galbatorix is defeated. (Is that a spoiler? Nah, everyone had to know that, right?) Rather than just saying, "This person did this. This person did that." There's a lot of detailed explanations as to everyone's plans. Which, I suppose, isn't bad. I just didn't think it was that interesting, and after Galbatorix's defeat, I was ready for it to be over. There was only one character I really wanted a better ending for, and that was Murtagh, but oh well. You win some, you lose some.

I enjoyed this one as much as I enjoyed the others. I can't say which book is my favorite because they all sort of blend together in my head. Maybe Brisingr. I don't know. But I'm finally done with this series!!
