Giving this two stars is hard.
But, like what the heck actually happened?

I couldn't actually tell you.
It also started with Vampires and witches but now has morphed to biblical angels and demons. I couldn't keep up and by the end I was way lost.

I loved the ending epilogue and yes, that means I will probably read the next, but this one was just all over the place for me.

This is the completion of the duology, the sequel to The Coven. This book was not as interesting as the first for me. The development of relationships was very poor on all levels. The friendships especially seemed unearned for people who claim not to trust anyone. And don't get me started on Ash hugging Gray because they had a talk while Willow was getting dressed after the last time he saw them in The Coven Gray was stabbing her and the time before that he was threatening his life after chasing them. Like no, that's not necessary. The friendship that forms with Leviathan is equally unbelievable. While I think this series was planned out well, the execution as a whole was underdeveloped.
The personification of the demons also made them just seem normal dudes aside from being very strong and big. I did not like this installment as much as the first book, which had that explosive ending that was so interesting to read.
This book had second book in a trilogy energy, not final installment of a duology.
Thanks to NetGalley and Tor Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I liked Willow way less in this book. I didn’t like that she kept getting manipulated and/or eventually attacked over and over again. It felt repetitive and like whatever she did in the book didn’t really matter because everyone already had their minds made up.
Her dynamic with Gray was less interesting, and the ways they were interacting ended up feeling exhausting. All that steamy tension from the first book did not carry over.
It was still entertaining, but I don’t know that I’d recommend the first book knowing that this is the payoff of the duology.
(Also, the female narrator did lots of monotone voices just at different pitches, and I didn’t care for it. The male narrator’s voice for the demons was also… too growly. Odd choices there.)

PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING…

This book wasn’t as good as the first book, but I enjoyed it. I still love how toxic the characters are, not sure what that says about me…. I will say the concept for these two books are really cool, witches and demons. I still have a bit of an issue with the world building, if I thought about it enough I might find something off. This book did go into greater detail regarding the magic system than the first book, and a bit more into the history, however I’m still not satisfied with what we got.

This book is spicer than the first, would give this one 4/5 🌶️.  This book is a bit kinker than the first, so be prepared for that.

Overall not bad. I’m not sure if the author is intending to extend the book series, or do a spin off.

A shame. Truly. I loved the first book but this one was absolutely a waste of time. Mostly uncomfortable smut that did nothing for me or the plot. The voice cast of the audiobook also was bad on top of it. Barely worth 2 stars.

I remember reading the first one quickly but I just can’t get into the second.

Will update if I try again in the future.

FML, there’s going to be a third book. I thought it was a duet 😩 Anyways, I’ll definitely continue with this series as it come out. Even though I feel like we could use one more Willow/Gray book before switching POV’s, because I feel like there’s still more story there, but oh well.
