Supposedly I would like this because I loved the Sookie Stackhouse books. Not the case. Anita Blake is Sookie if she had 0 charm and also 0 depth (which is saying smg bc Sookie is not particularly deep or layered).

There were way too many side characters with generic male names, to the point that I could not remember the difference between Edward, Phillip, Aubrey, Winter, Dolph, Bert, etc.

The plot was both boring and confusing. I might try one more book in the series bc the plot of book 2 sounds really fun. It should probably get 1 star, but vampires and zombies are cute and fun so <3

Got this book from the library for my shame reader (Nook). The only shame was in reading it. Not sexy or interesting. I did read the whole thing, so there's that.

Like gas station pizza; a treat in it's own right, but shockingly empty of flavor when compared to similarly made offerings.

This is a good introduction to a cast of characters that grow immensely over the series. The little bit of horror that is inserted is intriguing. And the beginning of the world building is really good with room to expand in later books.

I have read all of the Anita Blake series but Guilty Pleasures is the first book in the series. It is pure entertainment. Anita Blake is a necromancer and vampire hunter in a world that looks like ours but there are vampires and werewolves. But they are out in public - citizens and protected by law--as long as they abide by the laws. If you like books about vampires and werewolves then you probably will like the Anita Blake series.

Just one warning the later books in this series aren't as good.

the vampires in here are terrifying! i don't know how the main character is going fall in love with one.

i enjoyed reading this book. the only gripe i had was that things were fed to us. the main character would be sarcastic and then its like oh did you see that...the sarcastic thing she just did yeah she did that or yeah she kills like with guns cause you know she is bad ass! just over and over again and i'm like I GET IT!

basically an interesting read. not necessary the best but entertaining for sure

Confusing and a little campy. Reminded me of the original Buffy movie, complete with Peewee the vampire. The cover and title had me worried that this would be super graphically sexual as well, but no sex to speak of; just some creepers, sexual harassment, and masturbating rats. Not sure how to feel about this, except that it went by quicker than a 30 minute sitcom, so perhaps I'll try a few more books and see if the style improves. I'm not sure what the hype is about.
