Overall I did like this story, however I found it unrealistic that someone like Clara and Boone would really take all the verbal abuse from everyone,it became a little overwhelming at times. And the ending was just too much. I have a very hard time believing that everyone just almost instantly is best of friends and love each other.

The best example of a family who likes to destroy their children.

Family (sigh) sometimes they just don't get you and they screw things up when they think they are helping. And sisters- nobody can be quite as ruthlessly spiteful.
Clara grew up wealthy and hated it. Her family does not understand her and they don't try. She left 7 years ago after a tragedy and hasn't been back. Now her younger sister is marrying her ex boyfriend and she is expected at the wedding. Not to mention the possibility that she will run into the love of her life that had left her all those years ago.
Boone is from the wrong side of the tracks. He has a mother who is the town drunk and a sister whose life has taken a turn that he cannot handle. Clara was the light in his life but their relationship was doomed from the start. Even though he left her 7 years ago, he is still shattered. He still struggles with being seen as town trash and fights it constantly.
After running into Boone the moment she arrives in town, Clara offers him money to be her plus one at the wedding. Boone and Clara are at war without the truth as an ally for either one. Add in her hateful family, the horrible ex, and all the things they don't know and you know there will be an explosion.
I loved the determination of these two to not conform to others' expectations.
At the heart of it, this book is a second chance story. It's about how lack of communication can utterly destroy a relationship.

This was my first book by this author and I really loved it. I like stories with couples from different classes and this fit nicely into that. The writing was great and I found myself dreading having to put the book down. I would have liked an epilogue but the end was written very well as it was.

Main character was whiny and unbearable at times. Both of the main chars just were so self absorbed and ridiculous that I was very tempted not to finish.

I dove in to The Fable of Us like I usually do with any Nicole Williams book. With an open heart , ready to fall in love with the characters.

I have to say, Nicole never seizes to amaze me. She has such a way with creating her characters and words. It's absolutely beautiful!

I couldn't help but give my heart away to Boone and Clara both. I didn't know what had happened in the past to them to create such sorrow, but I knew that at some point what they had was beautiful and worth it.

"Boone smelled like my childhood. Like the best years of my life in Charleston. Salty from sweat, sweet from his mom's and sister's shampoo he used to use instead of buying something more manly, and sour with the reminder of the past."

Even as we got to know them as the adults that they were, it was stunning. To have to endure so much pressure from her family, which by the way, I absolutely hated with every fiber of my being.

"With one little mint, I was whisked back to the past: to a first kiss, to the first real kiss, to the first time I'd ever..."

I've said it before, Nicole has an amazing gift. The way which she describes feelings and emotions pulls you into the book, and for a moment, you forget that you're reading a book. For a moment, you believe that you are really seeing this relationship play out right in front of your very own eyes. The characters became so real to me.

"I've only ever had one someone special, Clara, and she turned me off to the whole idea of ever having another.' He wouldn't look at me as he talked. ' So no, there's not someone special in my life to care what I do or who I do it with".

At the end of the book, I was content. I felt such peace, because that is what Nicole does for me. She gives me peace and beauty. Her words have never made me upset, well, they'll cause emotions out of me. But, never where I hate her or her writing.

So thank you, for giving us Boone and the beauty that he brings to the world, or at least Charleston! Thank you for Clara, because she was able to teach us that you can be strong and persevere, no matter the obstacles that are set before you. For their love that was able to stay strong even through out the years that they were separated.

This is the third book I've read by Nicole and I have to say that I love her different writing style. It draws you in and doesn't let go.

While it had a serious feel to there were some fun moments that made it a great read. I loved Clara and Boone and the decision that they made would change their lives in one short week. I really hated Clara's family apart from Avalee but I'm glad to see how they worked on their issues.
