I put off reading this one despite the great reviews because I worried it would be too dark for me. And, although the subject matter is dark ( a teenaged Jeffrey Dahmer developing increasingly gruesome habits) - the book stops just at the time of Dahmer's first murder. (Fortunately, in my opinion).

This was an interesting perspective on the pre-serial killer days for Dahmer: how he was in high school, from the perspective of a sort-of friend. A chilling thing was that, even as teens, it was apparent this guy had a lot of weird stuff going on in his head...and pretty much everyone could tell. The art was unsettling and exaggerated, which suited the story. I really wanted more reflection from the author, though: while no teen wanted to narc on their friends, looking back, would you have done it anyway, based on what you sensed? Why the HELL did you need to tell all those really ableist jokes and NOT think about how that was wrong?

This is a graphic novel about the troubled teen-age years of the well known serial killer jeffree Dahmer, illustrated by one of his classmates!

It shows how he was like before he committed the crimes he did. All the warning signs that everyone noticed but chose to ignore.
The writer believes the victims could have been saved if there was an adult in dahmer's life who recognized the pattren & the uncontrollable urges to sleep with corpses.. He could have went through therapy!

The warning signs were so clear that when they gathered 10 years after graduating highschool remembering the past, one of them said
" he is probably a serial killer by now " as a joke
They all laughed!
This was before dahmer's crimes were discovered!

My only take away from this is "don't let a criminal's troubled history make you sympathize with his actions."
The man killed around 17 people!
This should by no way shape or form make you sympathize... It only provides an explanation to why he descended to this degree

Terrifying look into the life of a to-be serial killer. I think at some point or another we all looked around our high school cafeteria wondering which of our classmates would end up in the White House in 20 years... Or the loony bin. And this is expressed in the graphic novel of Mr Backderf, whose art style captures the menacing tone of the situation, though I didn't enjoy it.
This was a haunting read as I found myself both in sympathy for the confused boy Dhamer, and yet utterly repulsed by his thoughts, actions, and my own empathy towards the boy who would grow up to have such a dark future.
I really could not understand the narrator though, as there was little to no emotions other than disgust and condescension towards Dhamer at all and I think that really hindered the overall story. If it had been written better and had more in-depth reflection, I think this would have become a go-to novel for understanding the signs of dangerous and deteriorating minds.

“He was a nobody. One of those shy kids who turned into social invalids when that first blast of adolescence hit, meekly accepted their fate, and became invisible.”

A memoir about one of the most famous serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer. It talks about his early life and his development of a serial killer. Multiple factors contributing to his behaviour such as; his parents shaky marriage and then divorce, his anti-socialization, his sexual needs & urges that were not normal for which he needed help. Basically, all the factors that are important for our growth and in becoming who we are.

Now, I can go on about Derf not being a good guy for not helping or for leaving him out like everyone else, but that is something he also knows & accepts because as he said Jeff didn't look like he needed help or that it was something adults should've discovered and helped him. But, I know it's not that easy.

An interesting read if you like reading the dark side of psychology.
