I should have just DNF'd this. I really hated the MC. Timeline didn't make sense (people barely introduced pronouns reliably in 2013 in NYC, doubt they did in OK). It dragged. Lots of stereotyping. Everything wraps up way too neatly. This feels like a harsh review but maybe that's because I'm disappointed? The premise sounded so good!

Ehh. I just wanted a better romance. I didn't want the characters together because I don't think they work together. They say "we can make this work if we want to" as if its being forced and it doesn't really make sense (spoiler, because it doesn't). A lot of the story is the main character whining about their life and one chapter they say love their new job and the next chapter their not sure about it. Things weren't consistent and I think it could have been 100 pages shorter.

This book has been getting rave reviews on bookstagram and I believe it lives up to the hype. At the very least, the epilogue made it such that I finished the book with a smile, feeling happy for all the characters and their ultimate success.

I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. :(

The premise was great! The romance between Charley and Amy felt forced and awkward and frankly distracting from the rest of the story, which I loved. Also, that one scene where Amy gets turned on by Charley talking about pushing back against fracking on Native American lands felt... some kind of weird.

idek what to say. like the premise sounded really promising but overall it just lacked substance. i was excited at first when amy and charlie first met, i was excited to see how their relationship continued. but, there was literally nothing, no chemistry and it seemed so awkward all the time, i have no idea how amy just was suddenly in love with her????

also all of the other characters, like her best friends, had absolutely zero characterization, they were just there as the stereotypical gay best friends pretty much.

the ending was super rushed and suddenly amy and charlie are all good again after not speaking for like 5 months, after one quick conversation???

anyways, there were some cute parts in it but overall i wish that there was more actual plot.

I enjoyed the premise of this book, but it got a little big draggy and over-explainy during some parts (the MC talking through all of her thoughts got a little repetitive). Also I had zero idea until over halfway through the book that it takes place in 2013. I’m not sure if I missed something or that it just wasn’t mentioned at all until then. It’s important to the plot but there’s no indication of the year until that particular plot point becomes relevant. Just a little odd…

I may have partially loved this book so much due to its Tulsa setting, but it’s such a cute little romance I think anyone into the genre will enjoy it. Fun queer love story with likable characters and a fun premise.
