Loved the idea of this book and it was an entertaining, at times tearful, read. But it was so corny in the beginning that I almost abandoned it. Glad I persevered - it's thought provoking and does make you ponder your own life.

It is rare that I do not know what to say about a book immediately upon finishing it, but this is one of those books. When I first heard about it at my Book Club, my gut reaction was that this would be one of those somewhat maudlin plots suitable for a Lifetime Movie. It was not that.

I started out feeling about Lucio much as his wife did - and ended up cheering for him. I am not sure I would agree with every choice he made but then that is not really the point of the novel. We are all on the same course as he is in the novel but with much less awareness of it. What he came to realize, I won’t share here - no spoilers- but it was deftly communicated and well told by the author.

All that said - I am not sure why I gave it 4 and not 5 stars. Predictability is virtually guaranteed in a book like this so that is not it. Perhaps it was knowing that it would be happy/sad from page 1. In any case, I would recommend it as a good read!

I don’t know if this is truly a 4 star book or that I’m reading it 6 months into widowhood and it simply spoke to me. A man living a particularly banal existence discovers he’s only got a few months to live (should have listened to his wife, why don’t husbands do that?) and decides he must put things right before he takes his leave. They end of being the happiest days of his life.

3.5 stars. This is a book about dying. And the main character makes it very clear in the first chapter that he is going to die. It's about one hundred days of dying with each day being its own chapter. This is about a normal, slightly flawed guy dealing with his own mortality and reprioritising his remaining life. It's about old relationships, new relationships, broken relationships and everything in between. This book is sweet. Ultimately it is also a love story. It will bring a tear to your eye. And at times it will make you giggle too.

I found this book in the humour section. it did have some moments of humour, but it never really grabbed me. The protagonist never really moves past his shallow man-child personna and finds ways to negate most growth he manages.

I thought 100 Days of Happiness was an ok read. It did not capture my attention much as I would have liked. The protagonist was kind of hard to root for. I would have liked more description of the setting. The plot was decent, and it did remind the reader of what matters most and that we need to strive for those things every day.

I loved how it started with humor and sarcasm, but the middle was a little ho-hum. Thankfully the family trip turned things around again and added emotion back in.
