This book has me wanting to dive down rabbit holes of fan art, theories, and discussions. I’m so mad I waited until now to read Neil Gaiman. That’s all I have for this review. Besides this: my young son is fortunate for being born before I read this book, or he might have been named Nobody.

For a magically-imbued graveyard dweller, Bod is a remarkably real character. You root for him, in the same way you'd root for any gifted cookie-cutter protagonist, but unlike those overpowered characters his personality is refreshingly real. If you're an anime person, The Graveyard Book is a mystical "coming of age" story not unlike FLCL.

neil gaiman is so good at writing books for children that absolutely wreck me, an adult. the illustrations in this edition are stunning and do a great job of enhancing the plot and vibes of the text -- i wouldn't read a version without them.
i am furious that i will never be a child growing up with a family of ghosts having supernatural adventures
until the real world calls and i have to leave the graveyard behind to create my own life.

I've always enjoyed reading Neil Gaiman's books. This one had points where it started speaking to me. Which is in no way different than any of his other books or any other book I read usually. But once I started reading the speech he wrote when accepting the Newberry Award and his acknowledgements it really started touching me and almost got emotion out of me. I will forever say that Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite authors ever and his books seem to stay with me longer than any other book ever has.
