Not the usual kind of book i’d lean towards. Picked up in a Stuff my kindle sale.
Loved the setting and turkish food mentions but just expected a little more from the plot. It had potential but i found myself predicting the outcome of the whole thing - perhaps because it’s a retelling (though i have yet to read pride and prejudice)

I really WANTED to love this one, since I won a copy in a Storygraph giveaway and because  it seems likely that the story has some autobiographical context to it, but  after getting 1/4 of the way, the didactic tone was too much. I mean didcatic in the literal sense, teaching, not moralising. It killed the story for me as the lead character came across as trying to teach readers about  Türkiye (and TOEFL) first, provide a romance story second.

Thanks to Storygraph and KC McCormick Çiftçi to send me this book.
A lovely reading. I loved visiting Antalya through the pages and discovering the Turkish culture. A modern and original retelling of P&P that I highly recommend.

thank you to storygraph for a free digital copy of this book!

i enjoyed how this novel was mostly set in turkey and followed the “opposites attract” trope. it had similarities to pride and prejudice but not so much that it was an exact copy. i think if you are a teacher you’d relate to the career aspect of the story and appreciate it more.

I received this book in a giveaway

I think that this book shines in the Austen adaptation to modern times. It does something I love, which is the fact that it doesn't stick too closely to the original material and it makes the necessary changes to make it make sense for a modern audience. I loved the academic setting as well.

However, I think that's the only aspect I liked, because the main relationships (both friendships and romances) are completely underdeveloped. People are best friends the moment they meet, and the main romance is very inconsistent.

I was eager to read this book but it turned out to be disappointing. I love the idea of a P&P retelling in Turkey, but the execution is just not great. My biggest problem is the main character, Eliza, whose lack of a (consistent) personality has troubled me from the beginning. Moreover, all the other characters say she's great in her job but we don't really see her doing anything impressive.
Then there's the issue with the lack of depth in all the realtionships, which is a pity bc that's one of the things I love Austen for. Friendships appear out of nowhere, trust is given but not earned, the same for dislike or sxual attraction. Overall, the characters and their interactions feel too simple, too plain, too immature. There are a lot of other things I'd like to say but I think they can be classified into the issues I already exposed.
It's a pity, honestly, because the idea is good and I think there's potential since some of the romantic scenes are genuinely cute.

I’m really surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel!! I spent most of today finishing it actually, it was that engaging! If you’re looking for a fluffy, entertaining Austen retelling in Türkiye; I’d highly recommend Pride, Prejudice, and Turkish Delight
