Nooooo! I don't want it to be over!
And to think I almost didn't request this!
Royalty tropes are not my usual reads. But reading the synopsis changed my mind.
Our hero is Nick Vane, an American, who was allowed to keep the family name as ling as his father returned to England to fulfil his duties. Now his grandfather the Earl of Englefield is looking to make Nick his heir. Brooke is the Earl's personal secretary tasked with getting Nick to the estate. Her persistence wears him down. And he finds himself flying to England.
Loved their chemistry.

This is a fun, lite hearted, quirky book, that I enjoyed reading. Nick is a brilliant, wealthy, sexy man with a chip on his shoulder regarding his parental history. Brooke is strong, smart, sassy, stubborn female who fears that she won’t be taken serious because of past relationship. The sparks fly between these two from the start, both sexually and in their banter. It was fun reading how these two put the other in their place.
The writing is easy to read, and the story is fun. The side characters added something to the story. Flynn did a really good job of including both the estate and the village in the story, they were treated like characters adding spice to the story. They also were used to show characteristics within each of the main characters.
While Nick’s paternal side was covered in the story, I wish that it had been done more in depth. While I really enjoyed this story, for me it felt like something was missing, or left incomplete and I think it was that.
I recommend this story to anyone who is looking for a story with strong characters and not a lot of angst. There are problems both real and imagined for these characters, but that’s about it. It’s one of those fun summer reads that will having you smiling by the end (I loved Nick’s romantic gesture).
I listened to this book on audio. The narrator did a good job of changing his voice when speaking for other characters so that it was easy to distinguish. He was easy to follow and understand.

A charming story!
I really enjoyed getting to know Nick and Brooke, two people from very different background (he’s an American inventor and the lost grandson of an English Earl, she’s the said Earl’s private secretary who has return to her home village after a nightmare with the press). They have instant chemistry, even if it’s shrouded in “hate” first.
The audiobook wasn’t too long which it what attracted me to it first but the story was cute that it kept me hooked.

Royal Bastard is such a fun read. Brooke is the PA to the earl. Nick is the earl’s only surviving heir. Nick’s grandfather and current earl paid off his mother when he was just a baby, so Nick wants nothing to do with that side of his family, however, Nick still goes to England.
Brooke’s love for her town and her determination to make sure the properties the earl controls is amazing. You can feel how much she cares about it. I loved Nick, he was definitely a fish out of water when he first arrived. He held true to his plan of not becoming earl and taking over for the man who rejected him from birth.
This book had some humor, some light moments and of course, plenty of secrets. There’s amazing chemistry between Brooke and Nick. Their banter, even through e-mail correspondence is fantastic.
If you’re looking for a royal romance between a British woman and an American man that will make you laugh and swoon definitely check this one out!

Fazit: Kann man lesen. Man darf keine große romantische royale Liebesgeschichte erwarten.
