Nice with a book about two tops. Normally they just "magically" fits together like a hand and gloves.
The editing of the book was rather bad.

I am so tooooooorn about reviewing this book and hoped that sleeping on it would help.
Here's the deal:
This is an interesting book, even though I'm not a big fan of mafia/arms dealer/assassin books, so I'm probably not the target reader. I wavered between being enthralled by the plot and really switching off at some moments.
It's well written, the MC's are also quite interesting. I even accept the fact that the Conrad we knew before had undergone significant character changes due to the physical injuries he had sustained and I felt that was a plausible explanation.
The power play of two tops didn't really do it to me and I'm not a big fan of "I want to stick my willy up your bum, I know you don't want that but the more you resist and fight me the hotter it makes me" vibe. I understand that it was supposed to be the physical representation on emotional submission but I found myself rolling my eyes.
I preferred the previous book in the series Falling, it was much more gritty, raw and angsty, which I rated 4 stars. Having said that, I can't really rate this one significantly less.
This was a 3,5 star read and I'm rounding up.

This was my first book by this author, but I promise it will not be my last. This book is detrimental to your health. Conrad and Archer are the not-so-perfect couple, two highly controlling Alpha males, one a stone cold killer and the other a stone cold defense barrister/lawyer. Their wit and banter was so amusing, I found myself highlighting a lot of their smartass comments to each other.

“What happened to you?” Archer asked. “A shift into hyper-drive took me by surprise.”{Conrad} “Your flux capacitor need adjusting?”{Archer}

“I’ll be too tired to fuck,” Conrad snapped. “All you have to do is stick your arse in the air.” {Archer} “In your dreams.”{Conrad}

“How are you feeling?” Archer asked. “Like some sadistic fucker has made me walk up and down a beach. Twice.”{Conrad}
“Damn that dog.”{Archer}

“All the better for fucking you. Why don’t you bend over, put your hands on the table and think of England.” {Conrad}
The very first sex scene is like something out of a Chuck Norris movie, head banging, arms in strong holds and evil~ious SEX.

This is a mind twisting, sit of your pants story, with more twist and turns in it than a roller coaster. The biggest WTH? Comes about 65%, this will have you shaking your head and wondering how could that have happened. I went into this book not knowing what to expect, but I was never expecting the two characters that Ms. Elsborg gave me, they were perfect, the storyline was phenomenal enjoyed each and every page. Looking forward to reading the first book in this series and a few others by this author.

This book sucked me in. I didn't want to put it down and it totally led me to distraction when I should have been busy writing my doctorate thesis. Thank you Conrad and Archer for an entertaining, edge of my seat, nailed biter of a ride. I loved this book even more than I loved the first book. This story was much more suspenseful than the first.

Antagonistic, competitive, sharp-tongued MCs falling in love while deftly dodging danger- catnip.

Coherent plot? - um, probably not the point.

Off to find more Barbara Elsborg.

I've been so excited to read this, I really liked Conrad from Falling so I was interested to see his story play out. I really enjoyed relationship between Conrad and Archer. The chemistry between them is palpable. There are lots of twists and turns in this as Archer and Conrad unravel their respective mysteries, some make more sense than others but over all it's interesting. I really enjoyed seeing the aftermath of a relationship that ends, not because there's no love, but because the people in it aren't actually compatible. You see Malachi deal with it in Falling, and now we get to see Conrad as he struggles with being heartbroken and guilty, for multiple reasons. And ultimately he makes his peace and moves on with Archer. Archer has his own guilt issues, though we don't get to see him deal with his issues nearly as much. There's no time. He's too busy trying to keep himself and Conrad alive. There is some acceptance but I would've liked more. I really liked Conrad's dad. LOVED Deefur (is naming your dog that a British thing? Because I'd never heard it before but this is the second time I've come across it in books written by British authors.) Towards the end there's a plot device that I just never bought into, I guess I've watched too much TV/read too many books, so the emotional resonance didn't impact me as much as I think the author would've liked. But all in all I really enjoyed this, and was not let down at all.

Oh, man. Here is how good this book was: not once, but twice, my husband had to lean over and say, "Are you okay, honey? You've been awfully quiet all evening." And that was before I stayed up until 2 a.m.
