A huge thank you to William Morrow for the advanced reader copy! This was at the top of my list of anticipated reads for 2023 and it did not disappoint!

Just Another Missing Person paints a complex, intriguing & engaging picture of a woman split between her family and her passion, policing, - all while trying to solve a missing person’s case. The characters are so well-done, their grief and feelings are palpable and it’s so easy for the reader to understand them and empathize with their actions. I devoured this novel and it was just as brilliant as McAllister’s previous work, Wrong Place, Wrong Time. No one else knows how to write such a compelling and unique mystery (with expertly handled twists!) and such full-bodied characters. Five stars! If you like mysteries or thrillers, I can’t recommend this enough.

Loved this! Every chapter had my mouth hanging open. The minute you think you've got it figured out, you don't. This comes out as one of my top faves this year.

"Would a good person go to any lengths to get justice?"

I'm really torn on this one. On one hand, it's a pretty good mystery. It kept me guessing and flipping the pages. I really liked Emma and Lewis' POVs thrown in there. I think they really flushed out the story and gave perspective on Julia. But I struggled with Julia. I think I'm just over corrupt police officers. I know, I know, protecting blah blah blah. But at some point, we have to stop normalizing cutting corners and exploiting loopholes just because you can.

But I rolled with the story anyways. I really wanted to know what happened to Olivia. A dead end ally, CCTV showing her going in but never coming out. Going missing still blows my mind. So it was good if you can ignore a few small things. The story is really pretty good.

4.75 stars! I absolutely adored this book. My jaw dropped multiple times throughout. A truly gripping read. I could not predict a single thing! The ONLY reason it’s not a 5 star read is because I hated the way the parents’ POV chapters being in 2nd person - like they were just talking to their kid recounting to them what had happened. It felt unnatural to read, because it just didn’t flow well. Just a preference but I would’ve preferred the parents’ POVs to be in the same 3rd person style as Julia’s chapters.

I loved the twist in this book! I thought it would be a 4-star read, but all the connections made in the final chapters bumped it to a 5-star read for me. I am a Gillian McAllister fan for sure!

WOWZA! I would give anything to see the planning process that went into this. There were several different narratives with overlapping timelines and SO much going on. BUT, don't let that scare you away. While it was slightly confusing in the beginning and maybe a tad intimidating, it was TOTALLY worth it!
The build-up was slow-going at first but once one shoe dropped it didn't stop till the very end. The twists and jaw-dropping shockers kept me reading well past my bedtime.
Julia's struggle to balance home and work identities is oh so relatable. It was easy to connect with her right away. Along with the other characters, parents and kids alike. It's easy to judge from the outside, but once you step into their shoes your whole perspective changes. And your morals become compromised.
McAllister did a fantastic job building and presenting this story. There are plots within plots, within plots.
Thank you, NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
