For a romance shifter story I really enjoyed it. This book was pretty intense with the whole love and the background story of some evil force trying to kill the shifters and their mates.

I probably will read the next one, because I want to know what happens.

Just too weird

I have read a lot of paranormal romance and a lot of authors go for the fated mates plot and I'm okay with that. I'm even okay with love at first sight. What I'm not okay with is people coping feels while the other is asleep. It's creepy and wrong.

I think the plot was okay but it felt off somehow.

Thanks Wicked Reads for a free read in exchange for a review.
I thought this book did well with staying with the genre, shape shifting dragons is not a real big genre, but the book was well written. The cover was eye catching, even though I did not like the title much. The character development was what really made the big stray from a five star rating. If you don't advertise insecurities in a book.... Meeting and falling in love too quickly, or body insecurities....I feel the book is a lot better. A book doesn't have insecurities so when the author advertises them, to me it makes the book feel like you can't lose your self in the story. I love the language in the book, I was real familiar with some of the Gaelic terms and it made the book feel more familiar. Love to see dragon shifting books can't wait for the next one. Overall entertainment value ....four stars

I have to say, this made a nice change from doom and gloom!

Pretty much the main theme for this was about a dragon shifter finding a mate. -actually THE mate - theres only one, and Rayne has been waiting over 100 years to find his.

Rayne is a commander in a fleet of elite dragon shifters who spend most of their time protecting the rest of the dragons.

A side storyline, which i think will be explored more is one of the dragons that they all thought was dead - isnt. And is slightly annoyed, and thinks they left him to die, so wants revenge. Hes also the brother of twin dragons in the fleet.

Kyndel is the right mix of a fiery character mixed with a soft feminine touch, and Rayne will do anything to get her to be his mate.

But, the "traitor" shows up and Kyndel is caught in the cross fire and hurt - enough to make her not wake up.

A nice, easy book to read and a nice storyline!

I love insta-love/fated mates story, especially when the heroine doesn't go crazy and run away. Kendall understood deep down everything Rain was saying was true. She didn't run off in to danger. Love that she used her smarts to stay safe.
Rain is such a big softie that's just wants to keep his woman safe.

Kendall is smart, loving, and sweet. She knows when to put up a fight and when fighting isn't the answer all the time. She ask question before jumping the gun, which is the smart safe thing to do.

Overall, I enjoyed this story and Hollie Jackson narration of this story.
I would recommend to those that love dragons, a smart strong woman, and sweet insta-love

I wanted to like this book, but the dialogue is forced, the plot is forced, the characters’ logic makes no sense. Just not worth the read.

I give up. I just can't take anymore. I'm not one that easily gives up on a book. But this one...man, this one is a total bust for me. I often don't rate books I don't finish, but since I'm quitting this because I'm so not enjoying it, I'm rating it too.

First off, it's almost entirely tell, with almost no show. Of that tell, I'm estimating at least 80% is either internal monologues or narrative info drops. Not fun. Plus, those bulky drops often show up in the middle of what little outside-someone's-head action there is, shattering any tension that might have a chance to build.

There has thus far been no character development or world-building. Rayne drops out of the sky and saves Kyndel from an attempted rape. (Of course he did, sexual victimisation is the cheapest way to imperil a heroine, so why not? Doesn't matter that it's totally random and not relevant to anything else in the book.) The H and h lay eyes on one another and BAM lust/love. No need to, you know, exchange even ten words because the Universe made her just for him.

This is an insult to woman! I do not exist solely for the benefit of my husband. Nor do I want to be told (repeatedly) that the heroine in a book was literally created for a man, as if she has no worth or place outside of him or, you know, on her own. Gag!

She takes him home to tend his wounds, they each live in their heads some more, then he starts having sex with her while she still asleep. That means no delicious build-up, but more importantly, hello, there is no consent there, that's assault! When she wakes up, she's still only a passive participant. Everything is done to her. She doesn't actually take any action or show any agency. She is simply the static representation of a woman that the man gets off and gets off on.

Plus, the sex is NOT SEXY. Her juices were constantly flowing, flowing, flowing and gushing and joining them together and all I could think was, 'Someone get the poor woman a Kotex or something.' On top of that, he kept pressing, pinching and biting her clitoras. The clitoras has something like 8,000 nerve endings. Pressing it like a doorbell or pinching it like a schoolyard bully just sounds painful...and if you bite that sucker, you're likely to find a woman's foot knocking your teeth in. Not sexy! Plus, she was supposed to have had so many orgasims I seriously envisioned her in seizures.

In the end, I just couldn't take anymore in-the-head monologues about either character's history or cheesy dialogue. Especially since the book is PAINFULLY REPETITIVE. The reader is told the same things over and over and over and over again, so it's highly likely that the next dozen or so internal monologues would just be more and more and more of the EXACT SAME THING we'd already been told anyway.

I have the rest of this series. They were all free at the same time. But I'm pretty sure I'm never going to read them.

I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was super excited to read a book about dragons and my excitement was not let down! Julia kept my attention throughout the entire story. Her characters and plots are very well developed. I was so excited to learn there are three more books in this series.

[b:Her Dragon To Slay|18270740|Her Dragon To Slay (Dragon Guards, #1)|Julia Mills|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1383701953s/18270740.jpg|25733772] by [a:Julia Mills|7200721|Julia Mills|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1382034837p2/7200721.jpg] is a Paranormal Romance. It starts out great. Unfortunately it deteriorates as the story continues. The problems start off with a few editing problems, like the wrong word used in a sentence. Then unnecessary information and repetition of thoughts that hinder the flow of the story. The way Rayne speaks to Kyndal is beyond sappy and childish. Rayne and his men are suppose to be hardened warriors fighting a dangerous foe, but it is hard to take them seriously.
All these things made it difficult to finish the story. I wanted to really like it, and the beginning was great. Alas, not a great start to this series. It needed more adult conversation, more action in and better written fight scenes. Less sugary sweet talk. I think to much emphasis was placed on the sex scenes and not enough in developing the story to adult level reading.
