Really good thriller.. yes I know I have in the past derided such thrillers... but this is sooo much better than all the rest it has suspense, a genuine mastermind who yes is cold blooded and would be known as a psychopath but damn it very good and the characters were also believable. So yeah very good

First, congratulations to Mr. Kent as this novel will be adapted into a TV series!

Now, my review: More like 4.5 stars. This is a fast-paced, action-packed novel with a plot that is so realistic it scares me. Terrorism is a hot topic for writers but it's also a challenging topic because when the plot becomes too far-fetched and over the top, it lacks the appeal. After all, people fear terrorism because they destroy lives, tear families apart and traumatize the survivors. What I like about this book is that despite the grand political scale on which this novel is based, it's still a character driven novels, with enough exploration of the main characters (Dempsey and Michael in particular, not so much about Sarah though). This is very hard to do and I congratulate Mr. Kent for managing that. Also, it has a rather realistic portrayal of politicians and the political parties. When I say "realistic" portrayal, I'm not referring to the action
Spoiler (as it's still a bit hard to believe a barrister can dodge the bullets from one of the best professional killer, even if he's the son of a gangster. Street fights are just different from professional combat, not to mention all the time studying to be a barrister and Michael's age makes it hard to believe he can even land a punch on Joshua)
, I'm referring to the nasty acts politicians do to reach and stay in power, or the extravagance politicians enjoy at the expense of lives of military men and law enforcement personnel.

Killer Intent is not without it's faults (aside from the point I mentioned in the spoiler above. Another problem is the ending. I'm sure this is a subjective matter and people are entitled to their opinions so that some make like it but I, personally, HATE it.
SpoilerI'm the naive type who prefer evil people being condemned for their actions. Of course, in a real world, this ending is more fitting for politicians will travel all the lengths to secure their power, even if it means honoring a monster. Nonetheless, I read novels simply to get away from the reality and this novel is too REAL to give me that pleasure.

Overall, I enjoyed Killer Intent and am looking forward to the sequel! More sexy Dempsey is good.

description

Visit the locations in the novel

Killer Intent starts with a bang (quite literarily) and doesn't let go. I also liked the fact that the title and the author’s name rhymes. Apparently it’s not the author’s real name -something I was disappointed at! Still good though.

I digress - I’m not known for my love of the political thriller with bullets and hit men from the word go, and this one is a bit busy at the beginning with characters, situations and all those bullets flying around. But stay with it, as the smoke clears and the unpredictability starts with a vengeance.

Ooh it’s very twisty and I could imagine Tom Cruise starring in it - but who stood out for me was actually the female character - Sarah Trueman. Wouldn’t like to be caught on the wrong side of her - the right side however and she would have your back, that’s for sure.

The fact that everything moves so quick means that you fly through the book and it’s the plot that is the strength here. What a tangled web we weave! With the current political situation around the world as it is, the novel really has some moments when you can’t help thinking of the real world.

Tense and fast. I need a lie down now.

Brilliant read that kept you wanting to read more. One cliff hanger after another that made putting the book down near impossible. Already pre ordered the next in the series.

Hmmmmm so im going to break my review down to likes and dislikes.

Liked - I enjoyed the pace of the book.

Dislike - it's not really my genre. It felt like it was trying to be a Bond film, full of burly butch overintelgent men, crossing and double crossing each other. The continual overly descriptive manly perception of each character got on my nerves. They were all 'intuative', 'inventive' and 'sharp' it got a bit annoying, I rolled my eyes a great deal. This is not my idea of a great book I found the storyline a little too predictable. I feel like the author threw in a couple of women into the mix of the story, made them semi strong-willed but weren't portrayed in great depth.

Sorry Tony

Copy received from S & S Australia for an honest review

This book. Boy, this book. I was intrigued by the blurb, but wasn't really sure what I was in for.

What I was in for was an adrenaline packed story, full of murder, political intrigue an plot twist after plot twist.

It did take me about 50 pages to get my head around who was whom, however once I had that in place I couldn't stop turning the pages.

It was a guessing game to see who the bad guys really were - I had my suspicions about half way through.

This book harked back to the days of the IRA, the terrorist attacks on Britain, the tensions between England and Northern Ireland. Our world is a highly charged political place at the moment, and who knows what our governments are really getting up to/

Killer Intent was a great change of pace from what I had been reading. Tony Kent is a new author to me, however I will be checking out more of his work in the future.

Political thrillers aren't really my kind if book. But I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. A large variety of excellent characters that I just loved. A major twist that I never expected. Well make that 2 twists I never expected that entwined together. Was a great read and now have considered putting more political thrillers in my TBR. I received a copy of this ARC from NetGalley and the Publisher for an honest review. Thank you.
