A sweet story about a swimmer and a whale. I honestly think it would have been better either as an illustrated book (short graphic novel or children's book), a short film, or at least a shorter version of itself. 148 pages was way too long. And, I'm sorry Lynne Cox, the writing style is just not particularly good. By that I guess I mean it is very repetitive and didn't seem well thought-out. There were a lot paragraphs of rhetorical questions, and so many "the X was Y as Z" analogies throughout. I think this is a nice story but did not like the medium of delivery. That said, if you are looking for a simple, short, predictable, happy-ending-guaranteed-right-on-the-cover story, then this is not bad. (But seriously, it could have been so much shorter!)

I loved this book. This is an excellent true story of a young girl and her experiences and efforts to help a lost baby whale. I was hooked from the first page and enthralled with the experience and visions described.

There is so much to be learned even from a wildlife perspective, the author takes us along as she begins with her morning swim and the fulfilling morning unfolds in a natural way, in keeping with her habits of training to be physically and mentally fit.

I was impressed with her maturity, amazingly at the young age of 17, and the discipline and initiative to excel at accomplishing more thru her efforts than the average youth of her age.

She pushes herself past normal human limits to solve the mystery of the small whale with so many efforts to save her newly found friend friend, or as she named him Grayson (the grey’s whales son).

It felt like I was there swimming right there beside them thru out the book because the descriptions were so good!

I usually don’t read non-fiction, but this one was recommended to me and I would 100 percent recommend this book for people of any age!

The goodreads synopsis was better than the actual book. Read it instead!

I didn’t know what to expect with this. Never read the description. Someone in an online book group said it was a short, sweet, moving and beautiful story and I added it to my queue. I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. It is write. With such gentleness and detail that you can envision everything. From every breath of air, every stroke in the water, every sight and sensation. And the story was just filled with such wonderful little bits of knowledge that I had to write them down. Just so inspirational and beautiful.

This was a nice story, but not nearly as exciting as I expected a story about swimming with a whale in the open ocean to be. The author's soothing voice didn't help, and I had to work to get it finished.

A sweet, simple, and short story about the author's profound experience encountering a baby gray whale. The underlying message was nice, but the anthropomorphizing and psychically communing with the universe were A Lot and the sporadic injection of Wikipedia-esque ocean facts was awkward. (I also strongly suspect given the species present and the time of year that she used a lot of poetic license to inject more ocean life into the narrative than she actually encountered and also also, it's illegal to approach and touch marine mammals in the US so...there's that). However, for children or for someone who isn't as familiar with the ocean and its wildlife, I could see this being an effective combination of educational and compelling, and could get people interested wildlife research and conservation.

Sea swimmer finds a lost baby gray whale and helps him find his mother. Really neat story! Learned a lot about sea creatures.
