I felt like the ending was dragged other than that I really enjoyed this book.

The Dead Husband is a twisted story of family and murder. Carter Wilson can certainly write a violent story and I really enjoyed it for the most part. Animal cruelty/death is something that really puts me off and that part of the storyline was hard to digest.

Rose and her young son return to Rose's childhood home of Bury after the apparent suicide of her husband. She never wanted to go back after her hellish upbringing, that she would rather not remember. But being back brings it all to the front again. She is now a published crime writer and Colin, a detective in on the case, believing that Rose had something to do with her husbands death, especially after how one of her characters dies.

Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for granting my wish on Netgalley for this book.

OMG!
I LOVED The Dead Girl in 2A! It was a great story with twists and turns I didn’t expect.
The Dead Husband was so much darker, so much more disturbing. I was uncomfortable through the entire read.
Rose Yates and her son Max come home to Bury, NH, after her husband dies. It was suicide.
Or was it? A Milwaukee police Officer comes to NH to follow up on the case. And throughout the book we learn more and more about why Rose left Bury in the first place.
And it did NOT end the way I expected! It was not wrapped up in a happy ending with a neat bow on top.
And I couldn’t be happier with this most uncomfortable, disturbing, dark, unexpected, crappy ending!
A++, author Carter Wilson, A++!!!!

I love Carter Wilson’s books, the twists and turns always shock me!
Rose has recently lost her husband Riley to suicide, she’s now a widow and a single parent to their son Max, so she packs up what’s left of her life in Whitefish Wisconsin and heads back to her hometown Bury New Hampshire. Rose is broke and struggling to write her latest mystery book, the only option is moving in with her wealthy father Logan Yates. She’s not looking forward to walking through the doors , she had left behind her father and sister after a tragedy twenty years ago and hadn’t returned since., she still suffers nightmares every night and the guilt has a hold on her. Seeing her sister and father brings back the rush of memories of the awful thing they did. Unbeknownst to Rose a detective from Milwaukee starts to see a shocking resemblance to what happened in her book to how her husband died, he doesn’t believe it’s a suicide and he’s determined to uncover the truth, when he begins to dig he soon uncovers even darker secrets. Will Rose be able to keep her life from crumbling around her? Four stars! Wow this book scared me especially the flashbacks into the past.

Family full of secrets, yet the patriarch of said family is adamant about keeping the family together! Why?

Different twists and turns take you through each family member’s secrets and it is enjoyable but also a bit predictable. I’d read more from this author though!

The interesting story made me pick this up. Interesting it was – but fails to hold you through the full book though.

Rose Yates is a crime writer, and is getting over a tragedy and dark secret which she, her sister Cora and dad hold. Rose moves from Bury, New Hampshire to Milwaukee. Though her books are not exactly hot sellers yet, life seemed to be falling in place. Her husband Riley dies tragically in what appears to be a suicide. Detective Colin Pearson looks at the case and senses there is something troubling Rose. Struggling to cope, Rose feels she needs to move to Bury at least for a short time, though it may mean reliving some of the old pains with her dad and sister.

The characterization is something sketchy and the behaviours of the key people involved is not fully explained. The story gets off to a very good start and does keep you hooked till well past midway, but after that it chugs along, with the last few sections being especially unsatisfying.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher for a free electronic review copy.
