It's always a sad day when you reach the end of a good series of books and I still can't believe I'm done with this particular series. After you've spent so much time with some of your favorite characters, it feels odd to know that you've reached the end of their documented lives. These four books were definitely some of the best I've ever read, with some of the best characters. Davy, Millie and Cent will always have a special place in this reader's heart!

As for Exo, the book is quite good, I just wish the climax had lasted a little bit longer, with a little more suspense. It wasn't a deal-breaker or anything, but it made the main antagonist of the book seem a lot more amateurish than were in the past.

The main plot, however, was exquisite! I wouldn't change anything about it. There isn't a single line that lingers or feels out of place and there is nothing that feels left out of the narrative either.

The cherry on top is the conclusion! It isn't an easy task to end a series. Gould nailed it with this one!

I had some trouble understanding what was going on. For example:

"Two inline counter-rotating eight-bladed props ran off separate permanent magnet motors and separate batteries (for redundancy), six feet from the very top of the stack, providing five hundred cubic feet per minute of airflow, with an option to bump it up to nine hundred, if we were willing to put up with the noise."

Thats a long sentance.

Not a fan of Joe and the whole romance is still kind of uninspiring. It's a shame because Davy and Millie are so much fun, more of them please.

This whole series was good. I prefer the first two books because it had more conflict and action than the last two. Overall I still really enjoyed them.

Book four in the [b:Jumper|47970|Jumper (Jumper, #1)|Steven Gould|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1304981770s/47970.jpg|3050557] series and kind of a left turn. What's cool about this series is that Gould keeps on stretching what it means to use the basic shtick, in this case teleporting. Maybe in this one he stretches it a bit too far but I like books for their ideas. This one is a little bit lighter in tone than the first two. However it adds a ridiculously detailed view on what it would take to handle space, especially low Earth orbit, in a more lightweight manner. Good if not great, but a good followup.

Gould always gets me with these books. Something about the way he writes gets me to the end faster than most of the other things I read.

This book is another story of Cent, though both her parents are involved. Different from the previous books, though, we get a lot more of pure science-fictiony discovery and not nearly as much of the tropey fight-against-the-bad-guys. And there's no problem with that. Gould's writing is still the same, good as ever.

This series is so good for me, I need to go back and read the tie-in he did when the movie came out.

This is my favorite book in the series, barring the first book. Lot's of progress toward a goal plus some new applications of their gift.

So I will admit that Steven Gould is a new to me author. I did however watch the movie Jumper and really enjoyed it so when I received this book for review I was all, "Heck yes! I've been dying to see what happens next in the movie...err book." *grins* First thing I found out when I read EXO was this was not book 2. It is book 4, well darn. Aside from that initial disappointment though, I quit enjoyed EXO. Steven Gould is talented, that is a given. The book is well written, has a solid story arc, and keeps the reader engaged throughout the story. I did get a bit lost with this being book 4 but not so lost that it detracted from the story. Some of the sci-fi elements though were hard to discern. EXO did in my opinion fail to pull me in on an emotional level which is what prevents me from giving the book a higher rating but it still a good book in my opinion and one I'm proud to say is on my shelf. If you love sci-fi, this is a good pick for you. Strong character development and complex world-building set this book apart from the rest.

It's 90% space talk, working out the consequences of jumping to space, which is super cool. the sub plot with the enemies felt a bit tacked on at the end. while the book seems pretty woke in many ways, kind of dumb that the main character takes back her boyfriend after cheating seemingly without working through it, even though a lot of time passed. it just seemed convenient more than anything. I didn't get that.

Reread April 2018:
Straight up wish-fulfillment and just so full of joy and problem-solving.

Original review:
Not even two years old, and this book has become a go-to comfort read.
