A couple of months ago I was at the theater waiting for my movie to start. A trailer played that had me absolutely excited - at least until the "A Wrinkle In Time" title appeared. I remembered reading this book in middle school and hating it, but since I have changed my mind about a lot of books with age I thought I would give this one another chance.

As it turns out, I still struggle with this book. I find the main character, Meg, absolutely unbearable as she spends most of the book either complaining about herself/her situation or yelling at others. I appreciate a flawed character facing tough times, but this just seemed excessive. I know that both this book and this character are very dear to many people, I just cannot make the same connection.

I remember LOVING this book as a child when I first read it but reading it again, it felt rather "preachy" with some of the religious stuff in it. Then the action seemed to go very quickly, it was a lot shorter than I remembered. I am still looking forward to the movie next month to see what they'll do with it.

When I picked this book up, I wasn’t expecting it to be so much like the Chronicles of Narnia, in the sense that much of the story is a Christian allegory. I found that element of the story to be very interesting, but there were a couple of other parts of the book that confused me and seemed to come out of nowhere. It may just be because I was reading fast, but I never remember them introducing the “CENTRAL Central Intelligence Center”, so I pretty much went through the rest of the book without knowing what it was.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book again (as the last time I read it was in 2nd grade), and I’m interested to see how the movie deals with the allegory throughout the book (i.e. will characters still quote Scripture and talk about God?)

3.5 A quick easy read with a nice story about the power of love. If I read this book and wrote this review when I was younger I would probably have given it a higher rating. As a grown up I saw potential to prolong the adventure and have more story to enjoy. I liked the writing style for sure.

What a fun book! I loved the characters and the plot throughout the book. I actually wish it had been longer, I thought it ended kind of abruptly. It would have been nice to have one chapter after the problem was solved just to know more about the family together. (Read for the Book Riot 2018 Read Harder Challenge - read a children’s classic published before 1980)

Please allow me to wax nostalgic and poetic on this book. I remember getting a couple of chapters to read for homework in either 2nd or 3rd grade. I remember reading them and thinking “wow! I need more of this story and Meg” at some point after that I was gifted this book by my family. And I loved it dearly for many years (until I got swept up in the HP craze) and I stopped rereading this series. This book is not perfect. But I remember feeling proud of being myself because Meg was proud of who she was. I remember wanting to know more about the Periodic Table because she had it memorized. I highly recommend rereading books you haven’t read since you were 12 or younger. Rediscovering those pages you first got sucked into. Because maybe you, like myself, will find out why you did the things you did. 5/5 because a book that makes you who you are today deserves all the stars. Now to watch the movie!!
