Rollins definitely made a strong effort to up the "gross out" factor in this book! Yuck. I was eating during one scene towards the end involving certain mollusk-like animal, and felt my stomach churn a bit.

But it was an entertaining read. Full of the typical good-looking, physically fit, military trained, young, friendly, genius good-guys. A bit trite, but I can usually look past it. It seems to be a characteristic of the genre.

Well written books. I think it's always going to be a safe bet that a book by Rollins will keep me entertained. Good suspense read.

Another excellent book. Could hardly put it down. Action packed to the end. I love all of the science James Rollins puts in his books, it brings out the excitement of ooohh maybe this could happen and then as always at the end of his books he goes back explains the real life tie ins of the science put in his books. Then he gives you references to do more research on your own if you like on the different subjects.

NEED MORE STARS!!!!!

This book was amazing! My favorite of the Sigma Force novels, even knocking Judas Strain down from its perch.

I love the biology-based thrillers and this one, dealing with bioterrorism and synthetic biology is especially fascinating.

If you're a fan of thrillers, you definitely need to pick this up, but a word of caution - don't start reading if you don't have time to finish, because there are NO good spots to stop.

4.5 stars.

I feel like this was a return to how great this series can be, after books 7, 8 and 9 were a little disappointing. It really gave me the same vibes as Black Order, which is my favourite in the series.

It always astounds me how much science and history is packed into these books along with so many great characters and action. I saw another reviewer labelling them as "science thrillers" and I think that's so accurate.

One other thing I like is that the author takes the time to talk through the various scientific and historical points at the end of the book and actually shows how many of them are true and he's really just tweaked them slightly and expanded on them for a story, some can be terrifying to think they're real and actively being worked on in the science world.

I'm a long time fan of this series so will definitely be continuing!

I picked this one up from a book swap, without knowing it was part of a series. It did however function as a stand alone. An explosion in a secluded lab starts a chain reaction of all life around it dying, and no one can figure out how to stop it. So Sigma Force is tasked with tracking down the only survivor of the explosion and creator of whatever is wreaking havoc on the land, before it destroys everything. This was fast paced and interesting, but also highly technical for people who aren't familiar with biology terminology (since that is my degree it was the reason I picked up this book in the first place). I like books like this because it toes the line between science and science fiction. I only gave it three stars for a few reasons. It was highly unrealistic, with characters who are seemingly good at everything. I felt like it could also have been shortened a little. Other than that I liked the book, since science adventure books are my thing.

A Thrill Ride!

Rollins does it again, intricately weaving character and catastrophe in a fashionably not only makes you want to find out what happens, but makes you care about what resolution that may be for each particular character.
