This was fine. I aporia the elevator setting it was a new thing for me in a book. I feel like the clues could have been something more than they ended up being. It could have added to the tension which wasn’t as strong as I think it should have been. The reveal was too easily laid out. It could have been more tense if the escape room clues had done more. Anyway I won’t remember this in a couple months so…

Fun quick read and finished it in a couple days. I felt the plot was very predictable and I didn’t like the way the author relied on stereotypes for the characters (especially Lucy who is presented in a very stereotypical manner of “awkward girl with autism” instead of getting better character development). I also felt the escape room wasn’t well developed. They could have simply been trapped in an elevator going to a meeting and it wouldn’t have made a difference to the plot. Overall it was a fun thriller read but nothing incredible

Entertaining easy read. I was intrigued by the storyline and trying to figure out the plot before it was revealed. I enjoyed this author’s book, The Night Swim, better but this was still fun to read and a nice way to distract myself from the usual life stressors.

Honestly... I hated this book. I did finish it, but the ending was extremely predictable. The story moved so slowly that it took me forever to actually finish it because I lost interest in chapter 10.
TW: Mention of gang rape, multiple murders, f bombs, and overly horny men.

This is an interesting thriller. I wanted to see how the story would unfold. Quick read, good twists and turns in the story.

4.5 stars rounded up!

I have a habit where I try and guess what the plot twists will be, and although I had an inkling for some of the ones included in this book, I was wayyyyy off with just how big the scale of them were!

The book centres around two timelines:
1 - Four Wall Street execs in an elevator escape room.
2 - The life of Sara Hall as she enters the world of Wall Street Finance.

I enjoyed the dual time line, although I felt as just as I was getting into one of them and wanting to know more, it switched, which really just meant I kept reading so definitely not a bad thing! This was one of my first full on thriller books that I've read, so I'm aware I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but overall I really enjoyed the book.

The four execs are completely irredeemable, which meant I got to enjoy them sweat it out in a small dark space, because as the story progresses, you realise just how much they deserve it.

It's not a 5 star read for two reasons:
Spoiler 1 - I felt like Lucy was written very stereotypically. Autism is such a vast spectrum and to stick to the stereotype of "off the scale book smart but 0 social skills" feels a little bit lazy? Maybe that's just me. (also so so so mad that she dies. #justiceforlucy)

2 - Sara ends up losing her job due to what I assume is the rest of the team messing with her work to get her fired, but it's never actually explained what role the rest of the team played in that, or if Sara was actually messing up her work herself.

Overall, really enjoyed this book, and looking forward to reading more thrillers!

I liked the premise of this book but not the ending. The reason behind all of it was so sad and really didn't need to happen. I know that she was struggling with justice but revenge isn't always the best answer. I was also hoping that the escape room was going to be more of a Saw scenario where they were battling actual puzzles/scenarios as opposed to each other.

I recommend listening to the audio because you get a different narrator for Sarah Hall and another for the elevator characters.

I have learned a few things: investment bankers/financial professionals are scary and ruthless when they need to be, never to underestimate people and make assumptions, and I will never go to a escape room that starts with an elevator.

I really enjoyed this one. It was entertaining. Had "The Firm" and "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" vibes for me. I liked the two timeline storytelling. The build up to the ending was a bit much, but it was still entertaining. Sometimes, the trash takes itself out.

Enjoyable book! It kept me thinking how everything would come together in the end.
Some hints or clues were a bit too obvious for me where which made some plottwists predictable.
The ending was a bit too fast and i hoped there was another chapter to really 'close' the story. But all in all, enjoyable book with some good twists and turns and a rather quick read.
