Bartz decided that this was her one shot to write a book, so she threw all her ideas into this one. Stupid choices on behalf of the characters, and extremely annoying "you get a mystery! and you get a mystery! everybody gets a mysteryyyyyy!" vibe. I guess it's supposed to be deep? Definitely missed that.

I read this book quickly and found it compelling the entire way through. Neither Hana nor Katie’s narrative voices were distinct enough. The author slipped into show don’t tell. The pacing was great, but instead of indicting the pop culture capitalist feminism at the heart of this novel, it served to only really indict the one person at the helm of it. I wish it had more to say about what it means when a company runs on a cult of personality or about social media as whole. Also, I find it exhausting when characters hold on to information from the reader simply because it makes narrative sense to do so.

Giving this book 3.5 stars. It was an entertaining and quick read. There were lots of twists and turns. What made me pick this book up and distinguished it from other thrillers, is that it was a book written by a woman about an organization that was for women only.....which really pissed off many men in this fictional world. I liked the idea of that. Everything seems to be such a boy's club and here we had a girl's club. The powerful woman who was the founder of "The Herd" which was an all female co-working space, ends up going missing the day before a very monumental announcement. Is she dead? Is she alive? Did she runaway? You'll just have to read to find out. And you won't regret it. Told from the POVs of two sisters, this book also explores sibling rivalry, rivalry between friends, and other complexities about female relationships.

Katie is an aspiring author who has spent the last year in Kalamazoo taking care of her sick mother. She has been writing and researching for her book and when something happens and her book falls through she heads to New York hoping for a fresh start and to join The Herd where her sister works. The Herd is an exclusive all woman’s workspace and just for a monthly fee you can join and this gives you opportunity to work, just take a break, relax, exercise, drink and use their own beauty products in the Gleam Room. This exclusive club is run by none other Eleanor. Hana who is Katie’s older sister runs the PR aspect and also their college friend Mikki helps as well. They all met while attending Harvard. When Katie arrives she’s blown away with what these woman have created. Along the way Eleanor has gained some enemies who feel she excludes them, like men by making her club woman only. The day she’s supposed to make a huge business announcement Eleanor disappears. Katie and Hana begin to investigate and begin to realize that things are not quite what they seem. Eleanor has been keeping secrets from everyone. Soon everyone becomes a suspect and maybe just one of them is hiding the biggest secret of all! I give this five stars! My mind was everywhere trying to figure out what was happening! I finished this book in a day! I loved the authors previous book The Lost Night and I highly recommend grabbing this book when available! Also I’m from Michigan and love that she added Kalamazoo into the book

I’m so bored. There’s a dead woman, and I’m still bored.
