Delivers on a number of levels.
As a fantasy filled with myths, monsters and settings not familiar to me, but just on the cusp of my awareness (djinns and Egyptian/Arabian settings).
The characters are great and the story is constructed in such a way as to shift your allegiance between the warring factions.
No way I'm missing the rest of this trilogy, but may wait a bit, so as to prolong the pleasure of the tale.

It took me a little while to get into this but by the time they got to Daevabad, it was hard to put down. Looking forward to the next!

I enjoyed this one quite a bit! It is one that I had started to build up in my head and wasn't as groundbreaking as I'd begun to hope, but towards the end I really grew to appreciate the absolutely grey morality and the excellent twist that was hidden right in front of my eyes.
Hope the sequel can stick the landing while still keeping me interested in the mysteries of the world, but looking good so far!

*closes book*
*immediately orders the next two*
I have a bad habit of starting multiple books at once, but this one instantly grabbed my attention. I loved the history in the book, and thought the story was perfectly well paced. The characters are well developed and I feel that the author actually wrote some of them so that you can't really make up your mind about them. Their stories are very fluid and you kind of go back and forth with your feeling for them.
My only (small eye rolling) issue was the dramatic fighting between two of the characters over Nahri, but that's just me.
