I found the writing too pretentious and I was bored while reading it. I liked the way Cline writes Eve's attraction and attachment to Susan but that's all I liked.

Generally enjoyable - writing was nice, but sometimes too prosaic? I thought the difference in narrator time frames was done well, but I'm also not sure how much the adult perspective added (or rather, if what it added couldn't have been better presented another way).

Really mixed feelings about this book. It was beautifully written with stunning visualisations of the events as they unfold, which at times were quite suffocating. I can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t love this book. The build up fell a bit flat by the end, possible due to the fact that Evie continues to be quite a sad character, never really connecting with anyone again and left so damaged by such a brief period in her life.

This was a good book. I thought the perspective of a young girl, desperate to have any kind of meaningful life, drawn to the dark and exciting, exploring her sexuality, was pretty believable. The scene set in the 70s added to the nostalgic feel of it. I enjoyed this read more than I would have expected, probably due in part to how it was written. The climax of it panned out differently to how I expected - but I didn't mind because it made you think.

Wowowowowoowoww. Such an intense picture of girlhood and the need to be wanted.
