Thank You, Jeeves, by P.G. Wodehouse

All I can say is - what was I thinking all these years? I have no idea why I haven't read all of Wodehouse - thirty times over - already.
On the bright side, I have a whole world ahead of me now. Enter the word-house! (sorry)

As for the review, I don't really think I should do one. This book is so tailor-made for my taste in humour that there's no way I can pierce through to the faults - no matter how much I squint; the shining glow of pure joy that enveloped me while I devoured the action was thoroughly, happily opaque.

Jeeves, Jeeves, Jeeves. Brain the size of a planet, and here you're: 'just' a valet. :)

I realize it was a product of the times, but that doesn't stop all the minstrel-show and blackface stuff from being gross. Alas, I just can't like this the way I like the rest of the Jeeves books.

A group of minstrels are involved, which gets Bertie in blackface, which means we now have this picture as irrefutable proof of Hugh Laurie being a vicious racist:

This is the first full-length Jeeves and Wooster novel. It's not very good in comparison to many of Wodehouse's other books (and has dated much worse), despite the touching ending, but you're guaranteed laughs.

As in all the Jeeves and Wooster books, every line is a classic.

This one was hard to rate. I laughed out loud multiple times, which I rarely do reading, but this book was definitely uncomfortable to read. A large portion of the humor is derived from different characters putting on black shoe polish to look like "a band of negro minstrels". The rest of the book was funny though? Sigh.

17. A Light Comedic Novel

Funny? For sure.
Does it make you hit the dictionary a lot? Check.
Throughoutly British? Of course.
Do characters speak in an absurdly affected way about the most trivial matters? Yes.

Then, sir, it's a Jeeves novel.

It doesn't manage to be laugh out loud funny but I can't deny Wodehouse had a way with words. I'll be sure to read another one of his novels in the future
