So, I didn't enjoy this book, but I did find it entertaining. Evie is honestly very witty and funny, however I felt like the author was trying to convince me she's incapable for a good portion of the book? The Villain is a fun character, but I got very tired of him insisting he had no emotions whatsoever very fast. I also had to wait so long to discover his Traumatic Backstory that I didn't care much by the time we got there. The side characters are colourful and have unique backstories that are either explored or hinted at. The plot was very high stakes but somehow didn't feel important, even though it was actually interesting! I liked that the world-building didn't seem to matter that much, so it was simple, but it wasn't very straightforward. The magic system -part of the setting that does matter- is barely explained, except that many types of magic are "incredibly rare". Based on what I know from the second book, my gripes with Evie might be addressed, which is exciting, but I'm not sure if I'll read it.

I laughed out loud multiple times. This is morally grey hero done right, not just thinly-veiled abuse and toxicity masquerading as devotion. I’m starting the next one right away.

It's simple read, melodramatic, plays on troops not in a good way. Writing feels unfinished in a way.

A cute, campy, funny, lighthearted fantasy. One of the main characters is “the villain” so you must know going into this that the book isn’t meant to be taken very seriously. Writing isn’t prize winning, but it’s easy to read and fast paced. Starts off slow and a little odd, but once I fell in love with Evie and Trystan I couldn’t put it down. Halfway through the book I was fully onboard with murder and torture being cool. “Little tornado” 🥵🥰

Grumpy-Sunshine, morally-grey, unique idea, slow burn, no spice, cozy, dragons, high fantasy.

Serious adult Ella Enchanted vibes. Like Ella Enchanted, it’s almost spoofing at fantasy tropes.

I really enjoyed this book! I didn’t realize it was going to be a series so I was a little surprised by the cliff hanger ending but I enjoyed it.

This book felt like a magical workplace rom-com lol. I thought there was lots of great witty banter and funny moments. I found myself giggling and kicking my feet. There were some really beautiful romantic moments as well.

There was mystery that kept me intrigued and reading for more I thought the way things unfolded was well done. I loved Evie, The villain and Kingsley. They were loveable characters and it was easy to follow their stories.

I’m excited for the next book to talk about Evie’s mother. I want to know about Trystan’s mother. I want to know more about Kingsley and his situation. I’m also excited to see Evie blossom in her villainy and waiting for them to admit their love to each other
.

Really excited for the next book a nice enjoyable read and it felt right for October while still be light and refreshing.
