Dumb. But not in the fun way that most of this series has been dumb.

There was good charm and absurdity and fun in this one, as in the others. But it's also longer than the others with not much improvement and the ending was.... well, it wasn't what I would expect to tie off a series of this vibe. I thought it gained back some of the charm a couple of the middle books lost and it seemed a little bit more aware of how convoluted things were actually getting in terms of time travel and alternate universes and all. Not that it fixed the problem, it just lampshaded a bit heavier. Ford Prefect was really in top form, and its for that reason that I rated this a little higher than some of the others even if I'm not totally satisfied with where things eventually ended up. At the very least, it was back to hijinks and I think that really counts for something.
