I read a few reviews before reading this book although I have been looking forward to reading it since it was announced for preorder.
Overall I think it was a great read. The cliffhanger chapter endings were good and I enjoyed the different point of view from the main characters.
I will say there were some areas where I felt the timeline was confusing me to so I plan to reread it.
There were a couple of editing errors I noticed. Louisiana has parishes, not counties, and there was one part of the story where that was not caught and corrected. I felt like the writing was very descriptive and pretty, but some of the dialogue felt unnatural, not not enough to make the book less enjoyable.
The ending did feel a little short to me. I feel like there could have been a little more action there before the book ended, but hopefully in the next book it will pick up exactly where this one left off and we will know what happened.

I enjoyed it. Felt real sense of pride for her. I wish it had been a standalone though. Also, it totally urked me that she didn't acknowledge all the morbid fans.

This is the second book in a row I’ve read that had an absolutely terrible resolution. It would have been four stars otherwise.

I really wanted to love this story, but I found myself just meh by the end of it.

The book started off strong and chilling. The scene was set for a creepy horror story with a strong protagonist. I dove into the book feet first with the promise of a thrilling ride I couldn't fathom, but was quickly let down by characters I couldn't connect with.
At times I couldn't tell if the story wanted to be true crime, a thriller or a horror story. It was a bit off-putting at times and really detracted from the plot.

I love Alaina Urquhart, but this wasn't my read.

Well, this was a quick read. A little, well, not a little, mostly cliche story. And some really hamfisted writing, including this: “ desperation rolls off her like cigarettes smoke and mixes with the pompous delusion she wears all over her like drugstore perfume.”

This has been on my “want to read” list for awhile, so while I did order it for my public library, I caved and listened to the audiobook version. It did not disappoint. Are there things the author in me would change if it was my book? Sure. But it’s not, and this book had me hooked immediately. I knew there would be a twist, but there were actually multiple twists and it kept me, a mystery/thriller writer and true crime junkie, on my toes. That’s quite the accomplishment!

Tried way to hard, boring, anti climactic.
