Finished post-book club but you know how it goes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bradbury was and still is very influential for me and Something Wicked has gotta be one of my top faves of his. I just love how darkly poetic it is, especially how he uses ~word-word~ descriptions (I mean, come on, “beauty built of milk-bone and moon-flesh”? SWOON! “The lovely snail-gleam of the railway tracks…flinging wild gesticulations of lemon and cherry-colored semaphore to the stars”? Snail-gleam! So true! “People… stood raw and animal-crazy, naked… hands out to touch each other”? Sexy and creepy and I wanna join!!!). So many other gems in here, too. UGH, just so rich in imagery without overdoing it with complicated sentence structures. So creepy and weird and a perfect fall read. I enjoyed it just as much at 24 as I did at 14/15. Love this man. His typewriter was on fire for this one fr

It started slow but by the middle I was invested. It was what I always hope a Stephen King book will be. It was a little too much of a moral tale for my liking but it was well written and had the good kind of scary.

A good story. Meh, writing.

Could be my mood at the time, but I found this to be quite a bit overwritten (and I read The Witching Hour this year) . The prose often pulled me out of the story. I'd find that I'd read certain paragraphs and not retain them. Then I'd struggle to get back into reading. Worse, after about the 7th time, I stopped caring. Literally didn't feel I was missing anything important. The story itself was interesting enough to make me want to find out what happens, but by the last 50 pages it became a Finishing Game for me, and I found the ending to be predictable and sloppy.

Perhaps one day in the future I'll reread this and have a better time; perhaps knowing the story, I'll be able to slow down and enjoy the prose (I normally appreciate beautiful poetically quien imagery), but this time I felt like it kept getting in my way... Until then, I'll give it three stars. I'm sure at least half of my issues with this book were time/mood related. * shrug *

This was an excellent classic fantasy/horror book. I went into this book blind, I had heard of Something Wicked This Way Comes but I read this knowing absolutely nothing about it and I found myself really enjoying this book. I found this book to be beautifully written which helped create the creepy atmosphere of the story. This book had great characters and a wonderful story that immediately had my attention. I’ve never read a book quite like this one and I really enjoyed it.
