It took me a few chapters to become fully immersed in this novel. Once I connected with Oraya & Raihn, I was fully invested in following their ‘Kejari’ adventures & battles. Oraya is a bad ass! Born human, but raised by the ‘night born vampire king’ who loved her as a daughter but, trained her like a warrior, to survive in a world where she was constant prey.
Raihn, although a Pandora’s box, appears to be a tortured soul who longs for his humanity back and to make a change in the world he rightfully so despises.

The slow burn relationship between Oraya & Raihn is complex, challenging, chaotic and unpredictable. Enemies, to friends, to lovers, to enemies..? It has all the makings of an epic journey.
I’m excited to read the next instalment, the ending of this had me completely confused whether I was still rooting for them to be together or not. I’m an eternal romantic though & id like to believe the good guy really can be a hero….perhaps though, the girl will have to be her own saviour, just like the real world.

A fun little read to finish my Christmas break. I basically read it in a day, so it's an easy read and entertaining.

Things I liked:
- huge characters flaws that remain consistent, if not a little flat or irritating by the end
- the naivety of the main POV, reflective of her age and experience tbh
- the trials and tropes of everything we love about a smutty book
- the darker elements of the books.

Things I didn't like:
- the rushed ending
after the twist

-
the way the main charcter yieldied her motivation throughout the book to be strong, only to give up the oppprtunity to save lover boy

the idea that the darkest night creatures have weddings

Things I am looking forward to more... the politics. More smut (fingers crossed).

Oh there's a glossary at the end. I found this 3/4s through and it would have been helpful. The map helps in 0 ways imo.

Just shy of 4 stars because I felt like there was a lack of character building before the main plot. Otherwise it was great and truly a good slow burn.

Amidst my Fourth Wing hangover, I picked up this book based on rave reviews from friends and bookstagram, and luckily for me, it did not disappoint.

Raised by an infamous vampire king, a measly human girl spends the first half of her life learning how to survive in a kingdom of blood-hungry vampires. Learning all she can from her father, she enters into a cutthroat Hunger Games-esque tournament hoping to have her wish granted by the powerful goddess/mother of vampires. All she has to do is survive.

I picked this up with the intention of disappearing into a new fantasy world—aka ignoring anyone and anything around me. I loved the banter between the two main characters, the intricate world building, the ever-expanding plot, and even the unexpected twist at the end. Broadbent executed the tension and longing of the characters so, so well and that really made the story. I really enjoyed this; on to the second book!
